Contact the Chesapeake school system they do offer preschool. They fave to be at least 4 and they are not allowed to ride the buses.

Hello B.,
I'm not sure if Chesapeake has it but the Public Schools here in Portsmouth have a free full day preschool program. But the child has to be 4 by Sept. 30th (I believe) to enroll. It starts every year just like the regular school year. Also, if you need child care now have you tried to go to the Social Services to see if you are eligible for help. I know you being a Katrina victim they might be able to help you till you can get on your feet. Well, I hope this helped a little and good luck!

Have you looked into Head Start? You have to qualify based on your income so I don't know that they would be able to help you. I am also not sure if they have to be 3 by a certain date, like how the public schools have age guidelines for Kindergarten. It would be worth calling and asking though. Their main office is in Norfolk and they could answer your questions about whether or not you qualify. The number is ###-###-####. Other than Head start, I don't know of any free preschool for 3 year olds. Some churches have reasonably priced preschools, maybe you could find them listed in the phone book?

I am not sure what the requirments are but the YMCA has something called Early Adventures. My friends son is in it and he loves it and goes to school five day a week. Here is the link for it
