I'm looking for an afterschool daycare for my daughter, she is 11 yrs old with mild autism, I am very low on funds and I cannot afford one, I have looked for financial aid and noone will help me. I also need a daycare for the summer. My daughter just came to live with me since Feb 27 of this year and I'm having a hard time in many ways, if someone could please advise me somehow I would really appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hello N.,
Have you tried a church? Maybe Lakewood or one close to you. I have 2 small children. Wish I could help.

God Bless You and Stand Strong.

Hi N.,
I wish that I could be a better resource for you, but the only thing that I can think of for the summer that does scholarshipping inside the city is the YMCA. I think its horrible that you cant get any aid in helping to pay for it..
Good luck

Hi N.!
I have a soon to be 17 year old daughter with autism. We are in the Klein ISD and believe me I know what you are going through. I will tell you that Region IV has funds for out of school care. You must apply for it thru the Social Workers of the school district. Most will tell you they don't know what you are talking about, but it is there. Also, why is your dauhgter not eligible for disability? Have you tried that route. I have and most parents of special needs children fight this battle so know you are not alone. Have you ever heard of the ARC of Houston? I have a baby sitter that just informed me she was taking a 5 week vacation in June. So I am in a total melt down myself. What to do? Oh by the way - Try calling the United Way N.

Your local YMCA has afterschool programs at the school site, they also offer scholarship help for low income familys to help pay for before/after school care and summer day camp as well as other activities at the YMCA. My suggestion would be to check them out. Good luck.

There is a church that has a summer program. Messiah Lutheran on Telge Rd. (Telge and Cypress N. Houston) (across from Lamkin Elementary) I hope this helps.
