I am a first time mom and have always been a very social person. But, none of my friends have babies and I'm wondering if anyone can help me find a mom's group in St. Paul. I would love to find any mom's who are interested in walks or just meeting up for coffee. I am a first time mom of a 2 week old. Thank you in advance!

S.,

My name is A. and I have 5 kids. I am also a co-leader of a group called Mothers & More in St. Paul. We are part of a national organization and there are 3 chapters here in the metro area as well. We have a monthly meeting that meets the 2nd monday of the month and we meet at the Hamline Midway Library at 7 PM. We have a weekly walking club that meets every friday morning. We have a monthly book club that meets the 4th wednesday of the month. We have some Kids day out activities and are looking to start a coffee club soon. We also have a monthly Moms Night Out that meets the 3rd friday of the month (typically). You can find out more about us at www.stpaulmothersandmore.com and about the National organization at www.mothersandmore.org.

I hope that you find what you are looking for. Also, babies up to 6 months are welcome at all mom only events. You can also email us at ____@____.com

Hi S.,

I found my group on www.meetup.com. You can search by zip code for groups by type (mom's groups, dads groups, etc.). There are also several listings on Twin Cities ParentZone under the category for Playgroups and Parent Groups: http://twincities.parentzone.com/parentresources.asp?prid=51

Not sure how close you are to Grand Ave. but Red Balloon Bookshop has a great baby storytime - it's free every Tuesday morning at 10:15 a.m. And Stroller Strides is a great program for moms and babies but that is fee-based. You can search their website for locations in St. Paul.

Good luck and congratulations on your new baby!

Hi there,
Some of us on Mamsource are currently trying to get a mom's group together. If you're interested, email me back, and I'll add you to our group emails. We haven't actually gotten together yet, but we're starting the planning process!

Hi S.,

I would recommend United Hospital's New Parent Connection, especially since your baby is so new (congratulations!). NPC is a free service offered to anyone in the community - you don't have to deliver there to go. It is a group of new parents that meet once a week on Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30 (drop-in, no sign-up, come late or not at all...there are no rules). It is moderated by a highly respected and compassionate woman, Kathy Morris. It operates like a support group - you get to ask questions, share, get advice, and get professional resources. You will also get information about child development, activities to do with your baby, and more. The group is designed for parents of babies nb-4 months. The side effect of this group is that you connect with other parents with children the same age as yours. Soon you will find yourself meeting for coffee before the weekly sessions, and then meeting up for playdates. There is also a Yahoo group for NPC that lots of moms are active on. They are moms who are currently in the group, or whose babies have aged out. I found a core group of friends from NPC, but was able to expand my network by using the online group. Now we have a book club and meet for park dates all the time. Plus, you can seek advice from more experienced moms on the board (much like this one, but a lot more personal, since you get to know many of the women.).

I would really encourage you to check this out. The first few months of your baby's life can be emotional, confusing, and really hard. It's nice to have a support group to attend that is more than a playdate. Plus, I can't say enough about how great Kathy is.

Here's a link for more information: http://www.unitedhospital.com/ac/services.nsf/allservice/...

Good luck!

I would also recommend checking out meetup.com and momsclub.org. I have been a member of both and they are awesome. Also your school district will offer ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) classes for parents of newborns on up to preschoolers. They have infant massage, baby story times, etc I know a lot of moms who have met long time friends through ECFE classes. Also your local libraries baby story times are worth checking out as they are chalk full of new moms wanting to make friends. If you belong to a church make sure to ask around if there is a Moms group through them or at a another church close by. A lot of churches have a program called MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) which is a non denominational Christian moms group. I highly recommend that program as well.
Good luck and happy mothering

I am a member of Mothers and More in Oakdale, however they do have a St. Paul Chapter as well. Over the past 2 years, I have found this group of women to be extremely insightful and helpful, as well as fun to go on walks with, have coffee with, playdates, etc. You can look them up at www.mothersandmore.org.

Good luck!

M.
