Seeking Advice on Bullying

Hi all,
I know this is an old subject, but it's the first time I have encountered it. My 9 year old daughter is being bullied on the school bus. The two girls that do this are not in my daughter's class, but in the same grade. The behavior is not very threatening, but it is nonetheless disturbing for what it could grow into. It is mostly poking, kicking, hair pulling and the like. My daughter really doesn't want to do anything about it because she doesn't want to get in trouble. She said she tried asking them to stop, but we all know how that goes. I need some new opinions on how to help her deal with this problem herself. I know you ladies will have some interesting ideas. Thanks!

Hello Linnete,
My husband and I went threw this with our 13 year old. She was being teased by a group of kids who were saying aweful things about her. We eventually had to call the school to get it resolved. They took it very seriously. I would contact the school immediately. Tell them everything they have to take care of it because of all the resent bullying issues. You can't let your daughter suffer one more day. We don't believe in getting into fights but we have told our kids that if they are being threatened they have our permission to fight back. Bullies usually pick on the kids who they know won't do anything. Tell her she won't get into trouble for sticking up for herself.

I never knew this, but my oldest daughter went through this--even having a teacher in the class teasing her! She didn't tell me because she didn't want me to call the school. She thought that would result in more problems since the teacher was involved. I really wish I had known. My suggestion is to definitely call the school. If your child is able to, can she sit closer to the bus driver? I know that she shouldn't have to do this--she should be able to sit wherever she wants and with her friends.

Hi Linette,

I think you should talk to the school bus driver about it first to see if he/she is aware of what is going on. Also speak with the principal at your daughters school and let he/she know what is going on and how your daughter has tried to solve the problem but it is not working. If incidents occur on the school bus it should be made known to the school before it gets out of control. Hope this is of help to you.

Hi L.,
I don't believe in volience or fighting either but one thing I know helped out my niece was after asking them to stop and just taking it for a few weeks, one day she picked up for herself rather then just taking it and ever since she never had a problem! All she did was speak up louder and with some force and they backed down when it occured to them that she was not just gonna sit there any more and take it! I hope this helps
