So What Happened?

First, I want to take the time to thank all of you who responded to my question. After recieving some info and doing some research, I decided not to woork from home with that particular company- so I went back to the drawing board on a job hunt. Shortly afer, I landed a job with Kindercare and I like it. Thanks for your help.

Hi R., I also work from home and raising my twins during school hours.. I have set schedules for their feeding, naps etc..... in the morning hours I put on the baby channel that seems to keep them calm and happy.... when I see it almost time for their lunch and nap.... I drop what I am doing and take about 30 -45 minutes to change their diapers, feed em and rub them down and lay in their crib for their nap, I am not saying its easy but right after they sleeping If I have calls to make or presentations is when I take full advantage of it. by then its time for my teenager and 4 yr to arrive and I get some time away if I still have work to do... R., find first what your baby enjoys doing, what keeps her relax and entertained.. it wont always be busy but if its just 2 hrs you need, I would say wait till she has a nap.... Hope this helps

R.,

Unfortunately, keeping a toddler occupied for that long a stretch of solid time is nearly impossible. Their attention spans aren't very long, they want your attention too badly, and their ability to get into trouble is too great. So, unless you're willing to dump her in a playpen in front of the tv, it's not going to happen.

Nap time is key for us work at homers. If you are doing something where time is flexible, you can put the time in after she goes to bed, or after your husband gets home from work and can entertain her for a while. If you are in need of daytime hours, and the afternoon works for you, try a Mother's helper. Have a high school student come in for those couple of hours a couple times a week and entertain your daughter. You'll still be there to supervise and make sure she's okay, but there will be a playmate for her, and someone who can change a diaper or fill a sippy cup. Another idea is to find another work at home Mom you know, and trade some hours. If she takes yours for 2 hours two days a week, you take hers for two hours two days a week, and everybody gets some uninterrupted work time.

Hope this helps!

Jess

My son was 2 1/2 when I got started with my network marketing business. To build a business early on, I was on the phone regularly doing customer care calls.

There are two things I found that worked. First was the "Phone time is fun time" box. It was a box of toys - nothing special really - that he could only play with while I was on the phone! He didn't get access to that box unless I was on the phone for work. Boy, it worked like a charm!

The other thing I did as he got older was a Stop/Go sign on the door to the spare bedroom/office where I worked. If the door was closed and the Stop sign was up, that meant Mommy was very busy on the phone and couldn't be interrupted unless it was an emergency. If the Go sign was up and the door was closed that meant I was interruptable but please enter quietly. If the door was open, I was just doing routine paperwork and would welcome a break!

Of course, I used the Stop/Go sign only when there was another adult home and watching my son (my husband or my son's grandma usually), but it also proved to be useful for everyone to understand that the "work" part of working from home was flexible but not optional and that I occasionally needed structured work time to get certain tasks done.

Hope these ideas help.
