My younger son has had a chronic cough for almost 2 months and I have taken him to his pediatrician three times and she just keeps doing the same things. She seems to have three remedies/medicines that she uses whenever my boys are sick. I am tired of this and am looking for a new pediatrician.
I live in the Plano area and would like someone that is open to alternative medicines or at least to remedies that do not involve drugs right away.
I appreciate any help you can give me....

Also if you know what to do when an eight month old has a chronic cough I am open to suggestions...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took my son to Dr. Bain today, and I loved her. She tried to find the root cause of his cough instead of just treating him with medicines. We are going to test him for allergies. Thanks so much for your recommendation.

Hi K.!
I'm sorry that your little one is sick. I'm sure there's a lot of frustration going on with your pediatrician. My son's doctor's name is Carolyn Ashworth, M.D. I like her a lot and she seems to be pretty good at what she does. This is her contact number: ###-###-####. She might have what you are looking for or she may not.
BTW- Are you using a humidifier? This usually helps my son when he gets sick. Good luck.

Has he been tested for Asthma? Allergies? Usually a chronic cough is something more. Good luck!

K.,

I have been taking my daughter to Dr. Deborah Bain. You can check out her website at www.healthykidspediatrics.com
She is very rare in the world of doctors out there. She is very open to alternative forms of treatment, and may have some suggestions for your sons cough that you are more comfortable with. I personally struggled with the arsenal of medicines most doctors handed me for my daughter, and finally found what I was looking for in Dr. Bain.

Best of Luck!

K.

I have been told that putting Vicks Vaporub on the feet and then put socks on while they sleep helps with coughs. Also, look into essential oils, I have been told that ones like eucalyptus are good for coughs but you have to use a carrier oil like olive or almond oil, don't apply the oils directly to the skin as they can irritate skin. The oils can also be put in bath water. Also, you can try homeopathic remedies available at Sprouts Farmer's market in plano off of Legacy and Coit. There are people at the store that can help you find what you need; they also sell essential oils. Also as a side note I like using Lavender essential oil in night time baths for my son to help him calm down plus it smells good. You can also put the essential oils in the humidifier.
