Seeking a "Barber"

I have strong, straight, salt & pepper hair. Right now it is long, 1 length & to the middle of my back [very easy to manage]. It looks really pretty but I'm 57 years old & I feel like I need something more age appropriate. I want a wash & wear cut. But it's just not as easy as it sounds. I'd like to find someone who really pays attention to what the hair can do & not what style they want to go out of the salon. I live in Nassau County but also work in Manhattan.

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

I have very straight hair as well. I love my hair stylist, he is in the West Village on Grove Street between Bleecker and 7th AVe. South, and his name is Alex. His shop is called Hairhoppers, and his number is ###-###-####. I've been going to him for 14 years now -- when I originally sought him out I had long hair and asked him, "If I tell you to only take off an inch, will you only take off an inch?" He said yes, and he did just that. When I turned 36 I got sick of my long hair, I felt it no longer complimented me, and I chopped it off -- well, he's great with both long and short hair styles! I do highlight my hair, because as I've gotten older my hair has gotten darker and I like the dirty blond look of my younger days. He is excellent at it. And it's not a "foo foo" salon that does a million things -- I don't get my nails done either, and all he is about is hair. It's a very small shop, but he's got a great business and a very loyal clientele (sp?), so I hope you give him a call!

Hi K.,

I've been going to my stylist for over 25 years and she never ceases to amaze me. I'm Chinese American so have very straight hair and she is Japanese so she knows her way around straight hair. She takes great care and pays attention to the details. I'm a new mom so she knows to give me "NO-maintenance" cuts.

She isn't cheap, but I think she's worth every penny. I consider her my necessary luxury.

Good luck!

I have an AMAZING hair stylist! I have been with her for 8 years and she just cut my hair last night...She pays attention to detail and has always respected my needs to be conservative when I was in that mode. She has a great personality and is so very talented. She is in Manhattan: http://www.kristanserafino.com/ ###-###-#### Tell her I sent you...V., mom of Bianca

Hi, I used to have really long hair.. and loved it. But now I have two young children and just don't have the time. I wanted to get a really nice haircut but I'm tired of spending all that money. I found Crisca Salon through citysearch.com I LOVE my haircut. I just wanted it short.. but Monsy said I also needed some style, not just a blunt, boring bob. She did a great job and for half the price I'm used to paying. She did a shoulder length so I can still pull it back in a pony tail when I need to. She did it somewhat longer in the front so it def. has style. My hair is wavy, if I wash and go it still looks good but if I blow dry it straight it looks awesome. Here are the raging reviews for Monsy: http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7160428/new_york_ny... Phone: ###-###-####
