Scott Walker Poll. Political Question

i'm all for scott walker and what he did for wisconsin is amazing. teacher and union workers now have to pay for their benefits jsut like my husband has to at his job!!! is that a bad thing??....NO! scott walker has always brought more jobs into wisconsin which has lower the unemployment rate and he has brought money into wisconsin without over spending!! scott walker in my eyes is a great guy!! and i'm looking forward to seeing him run for president someday!!

sooo Z. - he won fair and square - not only once - but twice! Does that tell you that the people in Wisconsin MIGHT be tired of Union THUGS??!??!?!?

From what I can tell, since I don't live in Wisconsin, he is a rare politician...he campaigned on doing certain things and is carrying those out. That he didn't forget his promises bugs you?

Like most American Citizens, you have been lied to about how awful The Right is.

Momof4 is right on! I live in WI, just read a great article last night that would explain it perfectly to you, but of course now I can't find it today! lol. He had to make the very tough decisions that most other politicians won't make, in order to get us out of our situation. You can only operate with a budget deficit (of $3.8 billion no less) for so long. At some point the bills come due, either for us or our children.

It is madness that had to be stopped. And yes, you definitely cannot believe everything you read, it's essential you do the research yourself & also be realistic. Our employment actually went down & jobs were created (not lost). We also now have a balanced budget with a surplus actually! What a refreshing thing! There is much more to it, but those who pushed for the recall, mainly union workers, were just making the most noise. The voters spoke again, and hopefully other politicians around the nation will follow suit & have the courage to NOT promise ALL things to ALL people, it just does not work! (If I find that article again, I'll come back & add it)

Perhaps because the voting citizens of WI agreed with actions he was taking in a financially troubled state and making some tough decisions that needed to be made.

Added: If people start leaving WI, that will just open up more jobs for the unemployed who will happily take their places.

He is fixing his state. Sometimes that hurts. I wish we could clone him and bring him to Illinois. We have a bunch of cowardly politicians lining their own pockets at taxpayer expense, and we're going to hell in a handbasket. We have no jobs and no money. I wish we had someone with the courage to fix things here.

Sometimes, not often, you meet a politican that will make the tough decisions and do what is best for the state. That is what Gov. Walker did for Wisconsin. He said what he would do and then actually "gasp" did it! Wow novel concept.

I am amused by Leah M's post. Wow, dramatic aren't we? I don't believe Wisconsin will be going back to the days of locking in employees and not paying them their fair wage.

There is NOTHING wrong with asking employees to contribute to the cost of their healthcare and pension. In the "old days" working for the government was low paying but great benefits. Somewhere along the line, the pay improved as did the benefits. Cities and states cannot continue to pay those wages and benefits. It is UNSUSTAINABLE. There must be a balance. That is what Gov. Walker is doing.

Unions are the corrupt demise of this country, good for Gov. Walker.

Because Gov Walker was elected the first time on a promise that he would rein in spending, deal with un-sustainable accomodations made for the unions, and he actually did what he said he would do. That was the will of the people. Of course, friends of mine who are Wisconsin teachers don't see it that way, but someone like me who lives in a broke state (IL) and who has family in bankrupt CA can see the need for spending cuts and breaking free from union control. Hoping my state, IL, can learn a few things from our neighbors to the north.

Ah yes. Let's go back to the days of no unions when the corporations can do everything and workers have zero protections. The "good old days" where people had to work while deathly ill, where workers got injured on the job and had no compensation, and their families starved to death if they were unable to perform their jobs.
No, unions are not perfect. But is abolishing them the answer? That's up to you. Left up to corporations, not unions, let's see - things would be very much like Walmart - where people are paid horrendously, where hundreds of thousands of workers are forced to work less than full time so the company does not have to pay them benefits, essentially leaving them under-employed and in poverty.
Oh and let's see - who do I think we should pay real low? Oh oh, I know!! Useless teachers - what do they do anyway? Nothing important, so we might as well treat them like dirt. Yay Scott Walker for representing us, the little people. You know, the wealthy.

@ Jennifer - no most teachers are not happy about this. In fact they are enraged. They lost their cushy packages. Sucks but had to be done.

@ Leigh - Umm people still work while deathly ill in non union jobs and they are still happy they don't have a deal with a union. working with a union sucks. My DH had to do it for awhile and he hated it.

Teachers may leave Wisconsin but it will open jobs for the unemployed and then they will go help bankrupt another state, until that state gets someone with guts like Scott Walker to stop the insanity.

If people move...great then I have a better chance of getting a job in a few years when I start.

Sometimes you have to go through a hard time before something good comes...sometimes something good never comes out of it...but hey that's life!!

And don't even get me started on teachers, the teachers I know do make 40K or more, work FAR less hours then my husband, work FAR less harder and still make 10k more then him, oh and they don't work june-september...and have way better benefits...etc. My husband also spent a good chunk of money on his education....the difference I guess is my husband is happy with what he does because he does what he loves. He didn't do his job for the money...maybe teachers became teachers for the money and not because they love it...because if they loved it they wouldn't be complaining so much at 40k or more a year and good benefits.

People as a whole typically are so greedy now and need more, and want more. We live a happy life on less then 35k a year, we life in our needs and not are WANTS...wants destroy people

Leah: Hate to break it to you, but unions are now obsolete. There are LAWS in place which protect workers from the melodramatic scenarios you outline. Unions made those laws possible, but now that the laws are in place, unions are no longer needed.

Congratulations to Gov. Walker. I will be praying for his success in the future.

Hum, when you see your costs go down, whether it is a tax decrease or no longer having to pay union dues, you tend to like the guy who produced it.

The unions have lost more than half their memberships because if you don't have to pay dues, you don't pay dues. Especially when you see no value for your money. When you see your property taxes go down for the first time in ten years you tend to like the man who produced it.

A better question would be why would anyone want to vote him out.

I hope Scott Walker has a twin brother that wants to move to California. We have his antithesis as the Govenor in California. Gov Brown's answer to every crisis is either tax more to raise more money or spend more on give-away programs to keep society's leeches happy.

Maybe WI would let us borrow Scott for a couple of years?

I haven't been following it all that closely myself, but if I had to speculate, I would say it was because of all he did with the unions and teachers. ;)

He spent 7.5x more money on his campaign. WI was Koch blocked, as usual...

The Koch Bros. funded Walker's campaign and outspent Barrett 8 to 1 due to a 1989 state loophole that severely limited Barrett and gave Walker unprecedented access to money. However, the GOP still lost control of the state senate, Walker is now a target of the John Doe investigation, and exit polls still show Obama defeating Romney.

I think it's sad. Too many people only thinking about the short-term. They may have seen a slight break in their taxes, but Walker is definitely not thinking about the long term consequences. Many people working for the state will seriously consider moving elsewhere or accepting jobs in the private sector. This is nothing but a short-term solution that really could have disastrous consequences.

I have a cousin that does.
She has O. child still in high school.
Teachers have started to leave WI.
Walker might have won, but now the residents are going to start PERSONALLY feeling the effects.

Not sure what the answer is. Even though I consider myself to be politically to the left, I've always thought unions were a waste of time. I could never see myself being in a union because I didn't want to be paid by a contract, the same as everyone else. However, I'm starting to rethink my opinion of unions. On one hand, I think there are definate downsides, but I think that they benefit all workers, whether or not they are union. I used to think employers would offer the same pay and benefits, even without a union, but now we are seeing that it's not the case. Workers are expected to do more work for less pay.

@Bobbi - I agree that some of the politicians need to go (Mike Madigan), but I live and work in IL and I can tell you we DO have jobs here. Unfortunately, many go unfilled because we can't find qualified people to fill them. I currently have an open position paying $17 per hour that I can't fill. EVERY resume/cover letter I have received has more than one typo. If someone is too lazy to spell check their resume, I have to question their attention to detail - an important part of the job. I know an HVAC guy (who pays much more) that is having the same problem.
