Hey Mamas. I was just reminiscing with my Mom and we started to talk about pop culture from the 80's (I was an 80's kid). It got me thinking- I'd love to share some of those old cartoons with my daughter. Cartoons like Care Bears, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, He-Man and She-ra (LOVED She-ra when I was a kid), The Ewoks, Fraggle Rock (of course), Pound Puppies,Inspector Gadget, Rainbow Brite, and The Wuzzles (my favorite). Any ideas ladies? The best ones would be Wuzzles and She-ra- I think she'd get the biggest kick out of those. I've checked eBaby and Amazon.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Mamas! We just got Netflix last week. I totally didn't even think to look on there (duh). I'm gonna go check it out! Andrea- I TOTALLY remember Jem! We watched Smurfs, Jetsons, and Tom and Jerry too. She loves old cartoons (Scooby Doo from the 60s, Betty Boop, Pink Panther, and even Space Ghost and Dino Boy so I think she'll like the ones from when I was young too.

There is a new network called HUB (used to be discovery kids). They have my little pony, strawberry shortcake and pound puppies shows among others. You should look into that.

I found Schoolhouse Rock on DVD! If you don't recall they were the little educational cartoons run in between the full length cartoons. They look very 70's but they still have catchy tunes and sneak in a lot of education. I loved Superfriends, G-Force ( 70's Japanese anime, badly dubbed), Muppets and Fraggles. You can find the Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock on DVD as well.

Netflix. We got rid off it last summer, got an antenna and $9/mo for netflix. My kids watch Fraggle Rock, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, Inspector Gadget and Felix the Cat and love them all. Plus we also get the Qubo channel with our antenna. I am so glad I am no longer paying $150/month for this stuff!

If you are really into it (well, I guess I am a slightly older generation, lol) go for the ones before those... Captain Caveman, Blue Falcon and DynoMutt, The SuperFriends, The Pink Panther, The Jetsons, et al.

A lot of these can be found on my favorite kids' channel: (say it with me now..) "Boomerang... where it alllllll comes back to you!"
:)

Oh yeah--- School House Rock, ROCKS!! We bought the anniversary edition a few years ago for my kids who'd never seen it. They learned so much... daughter even took it into school to let the teacher borrow it when they were learning about the government, and about conjunctions! LOL

Netflix has a lot of these.

My kids LOVE the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons (and so do I. They are actually pretty entertaining).
My 3 year old likes Care Bears, but truth be told, the old ones are pretty bad. We did rent She-Ra and it did not hold their attention, and was a lot lamer than I remembered it.
I would love to re-watch Jem though! Does anyone else remember Jem and the Holograms? Ha!

This is a great question! As a child of the 80s, I too have been wanting to get my kids into all that good stuff, especially since Saturday morning cartoons nowadays are quite lame!

I found Fraggle Rock is also on the HUB channel (also available on Comcast, not just AT&T) in the middle of the day around lunchtime. I also bought a few DVDs of it at Best Buy a while back. I think they've also got GIJoe and original Transformers cartoons later in the evening. I've also seen Care Bears movies on Comcast On Demand, but I don't know if they're original or new (and since my daughter is a bit young for that and my son would be...uninterested, to say the least...I haven't checked it out).

Let me know if you find any of the other ones that no one has mentioned finding yet! I love this stuff!

If you get the Qubo channel, they have Qubo After Dark, which is when they show the old school stuff. They show He-Man and She-Ra, and some other ones too. It's on pretty late, 11 pm here in Chicago, but if you have DVR you could record it and play it for your daughter during the daytime.

I also loved the cartoons you and the others have mentioned. I always remember Saturday Mornings with the Smurfs, and Gummi Bears (bouncing here and there and everywhere... lol). So fun!

I recently found Boomerang as well and it's so fun!! My daughter really loves My Little Pony and the Pink Panther! Too funny! She's also really into Tom and Jerry. Target has a bunch of Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears and Tom and Jerry DVDs for $5 too, so if you check frequently you can stock up for cheap!

Okay, I will SO try not to ramble, but you hit one of my favs!

Yup, the instant Netflix (if you have a Wii or other device) has all the Fraggle Rock, She-Ra, Care Bears, Rainbow Brite, Inspector Gadget, Rocky and Bullwinkle, etc.

Me, I'm prone to buying these things because I think TV was SOOOO much better then! And I totally forgot about the Pound Puppies cartoon, although I still have two Pound Puppies stuffed animals and they are on my daughters shelf (one big, one little.)

My total favorites were Muppet Babies, all Looney Tunes (I know they are much older than the 80s, but I've bought them all on DVD!), PeeWee's Playhouse, Ghostbusters, and I had forgotten about the Jem show, but I still have a cassette that came with my Jem barbie (which I also still have) so I remember the song...Jem, Jem is excitement, oooo-oooh, Jem, Jem is adventure, oooo-oooh...wow!!!!

I also see that a few people mentioned Schoolhouse Rock...I also bought the Anniversary Edition (with like, all the songs!) on sale for ten dollars, and my daughter LOVES it!

We also like some of the early 90s stuff, like Garfield and Friends, DuckTales, etc.

Oh, and the only one I cannot find, no matter what, is Muppet Babies. Apparently they can't get the rights to all the movie clips they had in the episodes, so they haven't been put to DVD. Total shame, I still think that was the best.

Wow, what a fun question...thanks! :)

Netflix has many of these on their watch it now. I watched the Fraggle Rock show with my son last week and the cartoon with my daughter. I know they have some of the older Care Bear movies and some of the newer versions of the show. Rainbow Brite is on our list, but I don't know when we'll watch it :). And I have seen a DVD called cartoons from the 80s...Monchi chis, Mr. T, etc at our local library. I am sure it's a good resource too. Enjoy!

My kids love Scooby and and Tom and Jerry. We all watch Sat. morn cartoons together as a family in bed. It is our chill time before we have to start our day. It also allows us comfy family time when everyone is still in a good mood. :)

I miss Fraggle Rock
