What Does a 7 Year Old Watch?

What does a typical 7 year old watch on tv? My daughter only likes Disney Jr. and Nick jr. and we feel these shows are way too young for her now. Is there something else we could get her into? She's been sick the past two days and has been watching a lot of tv.

What can I do next?

As much as I used to complain about those shows, my girls (almost 6 and 7) watch mostly phineas and ferb, spongebob, gravity falls, shake it up, ant farm and Jessie. I really don't care for many of these shows but I don't believe in just not allowing them. They don't watch tv that much anyways.

They also like my little pony, care bears, strawberry shortcake and sofia the first.

Their normal channels are cartoon network, the hub, boomerang, and disney XD.

My 9 year old loves this channel and for me I would much rather her watch those shows than something else much too old for her. I get a chuckle when my 9 year old loves to watch chuggington with her 2 year old sister. I am going to let it go for as long as I can. She will be old enough all too early.

I'd be glad that she still is captured by Disney Jr and Nick Jr. Just wait until she wants to watch the annoying/crude/crass/disrespectful shows that older kids want to watch, and you'll be pining for the days of Mickey Mouse and Dora.

My seven year old is certainly not typical. He like Paranormal Witness, The Walking Dead and The Neighbours.

My 7yr old son watches Big Cat Diary, River Monsters, the earth, planet and space shows. He also loves watching fishing and hunting shows, as well as Survivor, Survivor Man and all those other survivor shows he can find. And Animal Cops.

All that being said, he still loves watching Little Einsteins because he loves art and music, and the one with Agent Oso (I can't remember the name of it right now), and Too Cute on Animal Planet.

It looks like he watches alot of TV but he only watches on the weekends if we are home.

We don't have cable, but my 7 year old watches Netflix for Kids. She'll pick a show and watch it over and over. Usually it's the tween shows and movies, but this week it's Johnny Test. I don't censor her choices during her free time, but do use them for talking points. Spongebob and Phineas and Ferb are also continual favorites.

Our 7 year old watches Sponge Bob, Fairly Odd Parents, Goose Bumps, the Haunting Hour, Scooby Doo, Adventure Time and America's Funniest Home Videos.

I love Netflix for this reason. I put on documentaries for my daughter about sea creatures, etc., and when she's in more of a goofy mood, there are plenty of movies she can watch that are shown in the "Just for Kids" section or some of the shows like Phineas and Ferb, Johnny Test, and Jimmy Neutron. There are plenty of episodes and seasons to watch. They're kind of silly, but I don't have to worry about violence, or other dark themes. Whenever she's at my parents', she will watch Sprout (Caillou, Berenstein Bears, Thomas the Train, Olive the Ostrich), but I don't have cable, only the basic channels, so for her, Sprout may be a treat whereas for other kids, they may find it boring or that they have outgrown it. My daughter will be 7 in May and she says now that Dora the Explorer is for babies, although if she's in a certain mood, she MAY watch Diego. She still likes Blues Clues (and I do too, it teaches critical thinking), and Curious George, thank goodness!

At 7 my daughter watched the following. She enjoyed My Little Pony, Barbi Movies, Disney Movies. She still watched NIck Jr. Who doesn't like the Bernstein Bears :] Wiggles etc Some older shows she got into were, Bindi is a good show, the Croc hunter's daughter's show. Sabrina the teenage witch the animated one not the one with Melissa Joan Hart(not that their is anyhting wrong with it just to mature for a 7 year old) Arthur on PBS. Scooby Do and some older 80s and 70s cartoons. Some of the reg disney channel and Nick stuff are just not appropriate for a 7 year old.

When my son was 7 (he's 9 now) he loved old TV shows like Home Improvement, I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, etc. Now he's worked his way through most of those, and he's watching Seinfeld, but we have to edit some of them. He likes Kramer so much that we got him a poster of "The Kramer" painting for Christmas, and it's framed in his room! He also likes The Brady Bunch, and sometimes watches Gilligan's Island, although that is really silly.

I hope your daughter feels better soon!

My daughter is 7. We only have Netflix Streaming not TV and we try not to watch too often, but for sick days etc. She LOVES the movies E.T., Willy Wonka and Chocolate Factory (original not Tim Burton one),Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, shows: Downton Abbey, PBS Sherlock (not really for kids but mine LOVE it), Little House on the Prairie, Horseland, He Man, Godzilla (taking turns with her brother for shows :)
I agree the Disney and Nick Jr type things are way too young.

We have limited cable channels. So my daughters has to choose between the Hub and PBS kids.
My oldest is 7 and she watches Littlest pet shop and because her younger sister loves it, My Little Pony, she watches that too. In the mornings we watch a half hour of Arthur while they get ready for school. She also still very much loves Clifford.

Otherwise yes, she does like the shows on Nick and/or Disney, Victorious, Wizards of Wavery place, etc...but we don't have those channels so she hardly ever gets to watch them unless at her grandparents.

DD watches PBS and Qubo (Ion's children's channel). I find them both to have a good variety and good quality of programming.

We don't have the channels you mentioned since we don't have cable.

Our almost 7 year old daughter still likes the disney jr. shows too. I prefer those to the disney pre-teen shows which we try to avoid. However, she does also like Wild Kratts and Martha Speaks on PBS and some shows on animal planet like Dogs 101 and Too Cute.

I feel your pain. My daughter is 5 and still only wants to watch Nick Jr. Sometimes I am ok with it, because I figure it's better than something like iCarly and Shake It Up (which some other 5 and 6 year olds are into already!) and other days I want to tear my hair out, because Dora and Diego and Wow Wow Wubbzy drive me up a wall. I've been tempted to block Nick Jr. just so DD would be forced to give it up. I would agree that at 7 she's too old for it, but maybe she just finds comfort in the familiar.

Some other shows out there that my daughter has liked include My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, Pound Puppies and Care Bears (on the Hub) and some of the PBS Kids shows for grade schoolers like Arthur, Wild Kratts, Word Girl and Fetch with Ruff Ruffman. I also really like Phineas and Ferb on Disney and DD likes that one too. She's also liked (when we have found them) some of the older cartoon shows that we grew up with, like Inspector Gadget and Scooby Doo. And many things on Animal Planet, like Lassie's Pet Vet, would be okay as well.
