We are getting new furniture for my son's room. He is only 3-1/2 and i'm worried about getting a desk chair with rollers on it. For those of you with rolling desk chairs, what have your experiences been? Would you advise getting a stationary chair for safety? I also read somewhere that you can possibly tighten the screws on some and stop the chair from rolling. The flooring is wooden. Any advice would be great!

With a soon to be 4 year old? Nope. No desk or chair on wheels...my boys climb, push and are, well, boys....so nope, nope, nope!! :)
Greg, my 11 year old, JUST got a rolling chair for his desk in his room....and it STILL gets used as a missile launcher! :)
We had to get rid of a rolling chair because of our 2 yo.
He was our monkey and would roll it all over the place to get into whatever he wanted, so we put it in the basement and put a folding chair in it's place.
In his room, I wouldn't even have a chair with legs. Give him a beanbag chair.
Stationary. Absolutely.
Rolling chairs are too much temptation for many things such as being used for climbing on and susequently swivelling and flying off of.
Also, rolling chairs are extremely h*** o* carpets and other flooring.
At his age, he needs a stationary chair. At 3-1/2 years old, I don't know what size desk you're talking about, but if it's fairly big, he may need to sit on his knees to reach things which could be another danger if he pushes himself back from the desk and does a face plant because the chair rolls.
Go with a good solid chair. You can always get a different one when he gets older.
I would say definitely go with a stationary chair. The castors on rolling chairs would be more likely to slide on a wooden floor (even if they are locked). We have a rolling chair in our office, and it has definitely tried to roll away from my 2 1/2 year old if she tries to lean up against the desk.
all my kids have desks in their rooms and all their chairs are stationary, hope that helps. =)
I'd get a stationary chair. We have a rolly chair in our kitchen (near my desk) and DD has fallen off, run her toes over, etc. Nothing major but I don't think a little kid needs rollers on his chair. If you are worried about your floor, get one of those office floor protector things. IKEA makes great kiddie furniture.
No rolling for any of the children until they get much older like teens. The rolling chair is a safety hazard for young children and a toy for tweens. Keep it stationary.

I would get a stationary chair. On a wood floor it would be more prone to rolling. My son is almost 6 and won't sit in a rolling chair as I think it just feels too unstable to him. He always asks for a "regular" chair and the times he has tried the rolling desk chair he hasnt liked it. I think for learning computer skills, writing, etc it is best to have a comfortabe, stable chair.
They have rolling chairs that have locks on the wheels. if you go with a rolling chair i would make sure it's one with the locks.
The danger I've seen is that a child used the stationary chair to try and climb on the rolling desk and fell, ending up in the ER requiring stitches and bruised. The doctor said nothing rolling should be in a young child's room since they can slip, roll and get hurt. Go with stable legs on the desk and chair for safety's sake until he's a few years older.
