Hello, my husband and I are relocating to Longview in May. I'm eager to get involved and meet people as soon as possible. I'm 39 years old, and pregnant for the first time (8 weeks). I am very interested in fitness, churches, employment opportunities (I have a degree in Communication and have worked in Marketing for several large corporations)... looking to meet new friends.

What can I do next?

M.,

I was excited to read that you are coming to the Longview area, and congratulations on your new baby. Perhaps our paths will cross someday after you come. The Longview area offers many things to new arrivals (pardon me for sounding like a commercial). I know it is difficult when you first move in to a place, though. There are a good many churches that run the gamut of denominations and worship styles. I can't speak for all of them, but a lot of them offer bible studies and some offer a MOPS program (Mothers of Preschoolers), a Mother's Day Out, or something similar which you may find interesting as well as useful. I would invite you to try our church (New Beginnings). My family and I have attended there for many years, and in that time I have found the people there to be both genuine in their faith and in their concern for others.

And as for your other ineterests, there are a few fitness clubs to choose from and enough restaurants to go to a different one every meal for a few weeks at least. Longview does have a mall, albeit a small one and there are several strip shopping centers around. And should that not be enough, you will have Tyler, Dallas and Shreveport well within driving distance.

Good luck in the move, and I hope you find this area to be inviting and easy to fit into.

We just moved to Longview and love it. We're a little older (40's)and our kids are grown. We ride horses and have a home business. Are you interested in part-time work? We could use some marketing ideas for the business. I went to Identity Spa (near Tyler)the other day for a facial(very nice). There's a great little boutique next door and a wonderful cafe as well. It's fun here you just have to drive a little to get places. We've been checking out churches and have yet to find the right one. I'll let you know. K.

I am 35 with two little girls. White Oak, Spring Hill or Hallsville is definitely the school district you need to be in.
I am not sure what religion you are, but there are some great Church Families here in town. Pine Tree Church of Christ, Rose Heights (non-denominational), and Macedonia Baptist Church. I happen to know people in each of these and they are very welcoming and can help you out with anything you need. Congratulations on your pregnancy, that is awesome. You will like it here. A great place to eat is Texas Roadhouse, or Cheddars. They are building new businesses everyday. As far as quaint restaurants, we have a placed called Barrons that is wonderful, it is also a bookstore. Also, about 20 minutes from here is a little old town called Jefferson, that has several bed and breakfast, and old time restaurants. Very nice!

Hi, M.! I have lived in Longview for almost 10 years and I have to children. When I was pregnant with my first son, I took prenatal classes through Good Shepherd Medical Center. I also took a free breastfeeding class through them. Longview Regional also has excellent services for pregnant women. You can look both these hospitals up online. Longview is a smaller town and I'm also from a larger city, but we have lots of quaint shops (Barron's has great shopping and a restaurant inside) and we are having lots of growth in shops and restaurants. Overall, it is a nice town to raise a family and it is still growing! Plus, we are only 30 min. from Tyler which has more shopping and dining choices and 2 hrs. from Dallas and 1 hr. from Shreveport. You should love it here! Hope this helped some!
