Surprisingly, the nearest Starbuck's is in Terrell. Terrell also has the outlet mall (if that's the kind of shopping you are looking for), a small YMCA, 2 good vets (we go to Dr. Risinger), a good optometrist (Dr. Wilson), and a couple of good peds, although we go to Dr. Pfleiger in Rockwall (highly recommend him!). If you want anything other than Wal-Mart or Brookshire's for grocery shopping you'll need to go to Rockwall or Mesquite. You can find easy backroads to Rockwall from Forney (like FM740 or FM548)by looking at a good map, although I don't really know that Rockwall would be any closer than Mesquite except that all of Rockwall's shopping is in the same general area with easy access from Forney. If you are anything like me you will enjoy finding new ways to get where you want to go & the scenery on the backroads between Forney, Terrell, and Rockwall can be quite lovely. Good luck with your move & I hope you enjoy Forney.

i agree about dr. risinger. great family. i use dr. andrea plank as a pediatrician for my 4 month old and she is great. she is at the baylor mesquite office off of galloway. i am also a member of the terrell ymca and for $25/month you get unlimited yoga, pilates and step classes and use of all the machines. they are very family oriented and let me bring my little girl when using the machines. i usually shop in rockwall b/c i am a tjmaxx fanatic. i hope you like the area.

P.,

I just relocated to Forney myself. There is a Brookshire's and a Super Walmart for groceries. For "shopping" shopping, there's Mesquite and Rockwall, both of which are within 10-15 minutes away. There is at least one veterinarian (that I know of) in Forney right near Walmart, but I'm not familiar because we don't currently have a pet. There is a lot of building going on. I know a Starbucks is in the works, but I'm not sure of the location. I know it will more than likely also be near the Walmart. It's kind of the "hub" of the city at the moment. There's a movie theater that shows new movies for like $6 rather than the highway robbery in Mesquite. I'd be more than happy to give you any other information. Just let me know what else you're looking for, and welcome to the neighborhood!

Hope that helps,
A.

Hey P.,
Forney is a growing community. We have a Walmart and a Brookshires for grocery shopping and we are getting a CVS and have plenty of restaurants to eat at. Check out www.twentypeacefulminutes.com. This is a wonderful website that gives info on new businesses coming to the area. As for a vet, my husband has always taken our animals to Dr Risinger's in Terrell.
Hope this helps!

We live in Forney and have since Feb 2005. So far, we love the town... Not a ton of stuff going on in town right now, but I'm happy with the way it is growing. I love our neighborhood because we have 3 playgrounds (one with baby swings), covered tot lot (when the pool is open), a pool, an inline hockey rink and an elementary school...plus more in the works.

We actually just found a new pediatrician. We had continued going to our ped. in Dallas for a year. Our new pediatrician is Dr. Jyothi Reddy. We love her because she really respects the parents' right to make medical decisions. If you are alternative minded at all, then you'll like her.

We haven't found a vet in the area (alas...our dogs are happy not to be poked and prodded, but they do need their heartworm medication) yet. I think there are a couple...plus there's one in Heath, which is just up FM740 before you get to Rockwall.

Depending upon which part of Forney you live in, the Starbucks in Rockwall is closer than Terrell. From my neighborhood, the Rockwall Starbucks is between 10-15 minutes away and the Terrell one is between 20-25 minutes away.

We do 95% of our grocery shopping at Kroger in Rockwall because we like their organic selection. There is also a Wal-Mart Supercenter and a Brookshire's here in town. We don't have a Y, but there is one in Rockwall. You take 740 north to Ridge Road and follow that to 205 (Goliad) and head north. The nearest mall is Town East Mall in Mesquite. Rockwall also has a lot of stuff...Linens N Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, Micheal's, Hobby Lobby, etc.

Umm...suggestions...well...I have a sweet tooth and have tried all the donut shops in Forney (that I know of, at least). Forney Donuts on 740 near Criswell is the best. =P Also, The Daily Grind Cafe is a lovely place for a light lunch...but it is pricey. Country Smokehouse is a cute little homestyle restaurant, but I didn't find their chicken fried steak to be anything to write home about...and I think their mashed potatoes may have been instant. The pecan pie was worth the trip, though. We have at least three Mexican restaurants...of those, at least two have dead animal heads on the wall, so I don't go there...personal thing...I don't like seeing dead animals look at me while I eat other dead animals. ;)

Gosh...I've babbled. If there's anything specific I can answer for you or elaborate on, feel free to contact me through the Mamasource system. =)
