Okay mama's here's the deal... My husband is relocating with his job to Cleveland. He will be working out of 2 offices, one in Cleveland and one in Youngstown. I am hoping to find out what schools are good. My big boy will be in kindergarten next year and I really want him in a good one. What are the areas we should be looking to live and what are the areas to avoid? I'll also need a mom's day out program for my almost 2 year old. I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

So What Happened?

My husband decided to move to N. Royalton. He found an apt there and apparantly the school system is really good. I haven't looked into it on my own yet. Thanks for all your suggestions. I really appreciate all your help.

You'll probably want to stick to a pretty southeastern community if he'll be going back and forth between Cleveland and Youngstown. The commute can be a bear in the winter. Hudson would be a good bet.

Hey W., Good luck in your relocation. I moved here Three years ago and have really enjoyed it! We are on the West side on Cleveland and I'm not as familiar with some of the other areas, but I know Olmsted Falls has great schools (that's where we are). Other nice areas include West Lake and Lakewood. I'm sure some East siders will respond with what's good over on their end. We are actually in a new sub (they are almost done building) so there's plenty of houses in Olmsted for sale (including ours - with our second on the way, we are trying to relocate to Detroit, where our family and my job is). Want to check out our house, visit www.9563taberna.com. It's just one of many houses on the West side to choose from - there's tons for sale since not a lot of people are actually Moving Into the area. However, with the office in Youngstown, you may want to live close to the East side ... Youngstown is about an hour from here. Cleveland downtown is about 20 miles. Best of luck to you ...

I've lived on the east side of Cleveland my entire life. I would bet you will want to be on the east side as well if your husband will be travelling between Cleveland and Youngstown. The BEST school systems in Northeast Ohio include Chagrin Falls, Beachwood, Orange, and Solon. For a little less expensive area, Mayfield Hts. is also great! I am looking to move to a better school system and my current top choices are Mayfield Hts. and Beachwood. Good luck!

what area of cleveland are you talking about? i would try to avoid cleveland all together for your child if you can. are you willing to send son to a private school? if you find a lakewood home, the schools are still ok right now but they are going down slowly. rockyriver, im not to sure about but im sure its still pretty good. you could try going online to cleveland schools. check out the schools and see if you like them. remember if you dont like it he most likly wont like it either. well good luck!

Cleveland Magazine does an annual issue on rating the suburbs around Cleveland. It discusses schools, property taxes, income taxes, houseing prices...it may be helpful. There are lots of good schools on the east side (since that would be closer to Youngstown).

Hi W.,

We just relocated here from Philadelphia, so I can relate. We live in Avon, which is west of Cleveland. I'd say we're about one half hour from downtown Cleveland if that. Everything we need is close by, and there are lots of family things to do in the area. I'm amazed by the number of nice parks here, for example, and the lake is about ten minutes away. We really love it here aside from the fact that all our friends and family are back east! The schools are very good from what I've heard. We're supposed to be here for only a few years, so I haven't done too much research on the schools. Also, I'm not sure where you are coming from, but the cost of living here is much, much better than it is in the Philadelphia area. Just wanted to share our thoughts on Avon. Welcome!
