Really Dry Skin! What Works for You?

My skin is soooo dry and itchy! All over my back and just everywhere! I mean, really REALLY dry and cracking! I've tried every brand I can think of and nothing is helping. I was using melaluca's lotion but had to cancel my monthly orders because it just got to be too expensive and we couldn't afford the $70 monthly order. So, I need something I can just pick up at target or somewhere close by. I've tried just about every store brand there is, but maybe I'm missing something? I need something that is a bit more sticky and oily. I want it to last all day and not look like ash hours later. So, what works for you? Thanks!

What can I do next?

My skin is pretty dry as well. At Christmas, my hubby gave me some body creme, hand and foot creme from L'Occitane and I LOVE IT.

I LOVE all of these products. I put it on after my shower and it soaks in so well and stays. Stays all day.

Before I discovered this, I loved the Bath and Body Spa Therapy Look Ma creme for hands with parrafin. I loved that product as well. Good creme but I did reapply this one more often.

Body shop has some great body butters that I enjoy that are lasting and smell great. They stick with you all day. I love the Shea butter.

Origins also has some very good creme for dry skin. Sticks with you all day.

Good luck!

I've used lots of cocoa butter, baby oil, Vaseline, and even bathed in softened water to help eliminate this issue. I've never found anything that works all day long but have found that I only have to reapply minimally at various points throughout the day.

Try Cerave. You can find it at Target and we buy it in a large tub.

Also, you can buy some extra virgin coconut oil and whip it nice and fluffy in your mixer and use that at night or slather it on while your body is still damp from a bath or shower. It will heal your skin, I promise! It will last a really long time too, so it's cost effective.

I made a homemade salt scrub using
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup sea salt (Hain makes a sea salt that can be found at your local grocery or Target).
lime zest and a little squeeze of lime juice (to make it smell pretty!)

I use the scrub in the shower after I am done washing and then just rinse. A nice light oil remains on the skin, so let it soak in a bit and then blot yourself dry. It makes my skin feel amazing! Oh, just be sure to rinse your shower or tub, because the oil makes it slippery.

Good luck! If you really can't find anything that works, try a fish oil supplement. It will moisturize your skin from the inside out!

Me too! I have found Mary Kay's lotions are great, and nowhere near the expense you have been suffering. Let me know if you'd like me to send you samples or get together for a consultation. No charge for the consult, 100% guarantee, and try before you buy. We have numerous options for dry skin, so I'd love to talk with you. Check out my website at www.marykay.com/jblack2012 or email me at ____@____.com.

I was recently talking with a doctor friend and she suggested taking fish oil supplements. I asked my podiatrist and looked it up... Omega-3s are really good for all sorts of skin ailments. I've started taking them and see a minor improvement, but it's only been a few days, really, so I'm giving it a chance to really WOW me. ;)

Hope to hear from you. Good luck in your search.

I use the Moisture Therapy line by Avon. I like the ointment to put on my hands and feet at night time. I put socks over my feet of course.

I use the regular lotion after bathing, and the oatmeal one if I am getting itchy.

Is it dry skin or a symptom of something else (eczema, allergy, psoriasis)?

Make sure you are drinking tons of water, taking quick showers that aren't too hot, and lotioning up several times a day. I like Aveeno or Cetaphil the best. If you can't get it under control you may have to see a dermatologist.

I have the driest skin known to man. When I was in my teens my friends mom told me use baby oil after the shower before I dried off. There is NO WAY I could get by without it! It used to be dangerous for everyone else because it would get on the shower floor. But J&J came out with a much thicker version years ago and I now use that. I bought a sun tanning lotion back applier for my back. Equate makes a version too...but I found the J&J works so much better. So take a shower and when your done and before you dry off apply oil. Couple of tricks I've learned....use towels with some kind of print otherwise the oil can get in your hair if you forget which side you were using...I say to myself tuft-fluff towards skin, print out. Don't put it on the bottom of your feet just safety factor. In the winter I may still have to put lotion on during the day otherwise this has ALWAYS worked for me good Luck!
