Rash with No Other Symptoms?

I noticed a rash on the back of my 16-month old son's thigh on about 10 days ago. I figured it was diaper/heat rash as a result of traveling back from out of state and being bundled up a lot and not being able to change him quite as often as normal while on the plane, etc.

But then on Monday, I noticed some bumps on the rest of his leg, and on his other leg. Tuesday morning, I noticed bumps on his arms and torso. They are just little raised small bumps, some or flesh colored and some are a pink. Once in a great while he scratches, but otherwise he doesn't seem at all bothered. He has absolutely no other symptoms of being sick. There have been no changes in food/detergent/anything like that. The only change was that on Monday I switched from Pampers Cruisers to Pampers Baby Dry diapers because I was out of Cruisers. I do notice that he does not stay as dry with those diapers overnight. But could that cause a rash on his arms and torso? There's no rash in the diaper area itself.

I took him to the doctor Friday (because he's never had even a diaper rash before) and she thought it was just from the weather and being dry, and said I should bathe him every day (instead of 3x/week) and put tons of moisturizer on him. But this just doesn't make sense to me and I think it is something else. Any ideas??

My boy gets a rash on th back of his knees and in his armpits! Dr said it was probably caused by sweat and prescribed ointment. So if you Dr's advice doesn't work get a second opinion.

You wouldn’t believe the chemicals that are in the products that are in most of the products we purchase off of the store shelves. Since you are still having problems I would suggest getting rid of the chemicals. They are in everything from cleaning products, detergents, body wash, shampoos, etc. It sound like a big deal and a lot of work but it is seriously worth it. I actually made the switch a few years ago. I actually found an amazing company that makes it east to get safer products in your home for the fraction of the price that you would otherwise spend in the grocery store. It's just dry skin , start using a moisturiser on him after baths , in a few days it will be better , I use Eucerin on my kids , not sure if it is suitable for a 16 month old....maybe try Aveeno for babies.

When my kids got rashes, our doctor's advice was opposite of what your doctor said. He thought we should bathe them less often - no more then once a week. We also used Eucerin cream mixed with hydrocortison (SP?) which was by prescription. And make sure the bath water wasn't too hot. Hope it gets better. Just thought I'd share what worked for us.

My son got that same rash during the summer when he was about 6 months old. I freaked out and took him to the urgent care and the doctor there said that it was probably just an irritation from sweating. I took him to his pediatrician for a follow up and his doctor said that kids get rashes all the time, and usually for no apparent reason. He said not to worry about it unless there were other symptoms, especially a fever. So, if it's just a rash with no other symptoms, I wouldn't worry about it. I would bathe less often, because hot water and soap dries the skin out, and would apply gentle moisturizer at each diaper change during the day. Good luck!

I get dry skin bumps and moisturizer helps. It could also be a heat rash (sweat rash) if he was bundled up while you traveled. for my acne prone face and my daughter's dry patchy skin (exema) we use either Moisturel or Gold Bond Cream. Moisturel is lighter and I would start with that, it has no perfumes or dyes and is hypoallergenic. Gold Bond has various version, but I would also use a fragrance free one. My bumpy skin smooths out with moisturizer.

My doctor called something similar on my son "contact dermatitis"...or, "his skin looks different, but there is no real medical reason for it, don't worry"- i just put some lotion on him to compact the itch.
