Last night my daughter got a bunch of red blotches on her face. they weren't raised bumps, just dots. i know for sure that this has happened one other time, and both times i had fed her pears, so i am wondering if she could be having a reaction to that, although i have given her pears several other times and this has not happened. the pears are the only thing that was the same both times she got the little splotches. they disappeared w/in about 30 minutes or so. she also likes to roll around on the floor a lot, so maybe her skin just gets irritated from the blanket or carpet. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

I would try the pears again without her rolling on the carpet. If it happens again, she has an allergic reaction to pears.

Becoming your child's allergy detective can be frustrating work. There are several possibilities, even if it is related to pears. Was it a fresh pear? Was it organic? Was it canned, processed with sugar, MSG, etc.? If not organic and she ate it with the pealing, was it washed well? Sometimes it takes a combination of minor allergies or sensitivities to produce a symptom. If, for example, there is another food, a material, medical substance, or detergent, etc., to which she is slightly sensitive, and she has a slight sensitivity to pears, she might only produce the visible symptom when exposed to both. If your daughter is, or has recently been given any medicine or vaccine, you might want to ask your pharmasist or doctor about the issue. If you rely on medical/pharmaceutical healthcare, you can find helpful information at: http://www.babycenter.com/0_food-allergies_12409.bc. If you are more inclined to seek natural methods before reverting to medical interventions, you might want to explore possibilities with a local nutritionist or learn about methods that retrain allergic responses with acupoint therapies (not acupuncture), such as: http://www.naet.com/, or http://leggemethod.com/. I didn't have this amount of good information when my son was young and I really needed it. Hope it is helpful to you!

Hi Kim. My son got little red bumps after eating peaches one time. And the same thing--went away after just a short time. He's eaten peaches before and after that incident with no problems. I was wondering if that was maybe a time where he got especially messy and maybe the wet food irritated his skin for a bit. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you but hopefully knowing that someone else had the same issue is a little comforting. Best of luck to you!

It could be a lot of things. My daughter had the same thing and it turned out to be "Strep Face". I think that a visit to the Doctor would be the best solution. Just to be on the safe side.

if it's not allergy may just be her skin type.

if it's just a rash...a dr we saw for something else told me to try Vaseline on my child's breakouts ...and it worked to my surprise. we put on at night since she didn't like it...while she was sleepy. cleared things up right away.

Hi Kim,
Yes, I would say it is a reaction to the pairs. Maybe hold off on giving those to your daughter for awhile. My son used to get those red blothes when he would eat eggs. He is 2yrs. old now and doesn't get them anymore. She may just be slightly allergic to them right now and will probably grow out of it. I've always heard not to give children strawberries or honey before they are 2 years of age.
I hope this helps!
Take care, V.

My 4 month old son has also gotten a similar rash. I figured out that it came from my clothes and sheets. Now everything is washed in Dreft or perfume and dye free detergent and nothing else. No rash since. His skin is very sensitive.

Sound like a reaction to me. Goes without pears for two weeks and try them again. My son reacts the same with when he gets a hold of Blueberries. Sometimes it will take awhile for some reaction to appears. But be careful Because the Dr. Told me the more you give them something and react to it, will get worse. Just keep a Diary of what she eats within 2 hour of reacting and go talk to you Dr.

It could be the pears. My son has some severe food allergies and as far as I understand, the child has to receive the food a few times before his/her body builds up the allergen. If you notice the same thing occuring the next time you feed her pears - you may want to slack off on those for awhile. Children can outgrown their food allergy if they are not exposed to the food for 6 months or so. My son would get ill from peaches when he was eating baby food. I did not give him any for about 6 months and then gave them to him again with some fruit cocktail and they do not seem to bother him at all now. I would talk to your pediatrician, but if you notice a pattern with the pears, it may be allergy.

Hi Kim, it doesn't sound like hives, due to the fact that they're not raised. It sounds more like it might be heat rash. Are they showing up on the side of her face that she might have slept on or the blanket or something might have been close to her face?
