I am looking to make a quilt out of all my daughter's dance recitals costumes. I am having trouble getting started. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Find a local quilting group! I don't live near you, but look online and find some yarn and fabric stores in your area. Go ask around for a quilting group. I know that most ladies who quilt are eager to keep their tradition alive and love to introduce newcomers to it. It could be a great social activity for you as well as making a keepsake for your daughter. Also, you would have the benefit of experts who have been quilting for a long time to help you get a really good result, instead of just guessing how to do it or tying to follow a book.

Start with fabric stores and ask around- good luck!

Go to one of your local quilt shops with the recital costumes, ask the owner or some of the ladies in shopping on what they would do. Is the material cotton? or some other type of material? I'm betting that you will have a beauitful quilt out of all the differant colors.

Quilting is HARD and involved! My mom is an award-winning quilter. Very time consuming! Are you already a quilter? If not, join a local quilt guild. That's a good place to start. Ask at your local quilting supply place.

I have no suggestions. I just want to say it's a BEAUTIFUL idea! They are all so expensive and once they've outgrown them or used them for a recital, they never use them again. I've been trying to figure out what to do with all my daughters costumes (she's not 15 and doesn't dance anymore) and I might just ship these to my cousin for something like this!

I've seen it with t-shirts and jerseys, but never dance costumes.

sweet idea!
