Yes, traditionally it is paper. Along the paper theme... I was preg at the time and gave my husband some preg photos I had taken. Another idea is to get him tickets to some event he'd like.

It can be wood also. Nice picture frame, a plaque, a deck for the house...

How about a poem or love letter?

Yes, paper. How about monogrammed stationary or personalized address labels? Try Vistaprint.com. You could also do a pack of toilet paper as a joke. :-)

it is paper. My husband and I follow the "traditional" gifts every year for our anniversary--it's alot of fun. For our first anniversary, I got him tickets to our favorite band. This can be a bit pricey, but you can substitute tickets to whatever you would like. Or if you're really working toward an inexpensive gift, make a coupon book that he can redeem for time with you, dinner at his favorite restaurant, etc.

Concert tickets are a nice gift... or gift certificate to his fav store, magazine subscription....or "I.O.U." certificates such as "1 night alone" (find a family member or friend to watch the baby so you can be ALONE for a few hours) or "fancy dinner together", "Day together at the spa (or at home for that matter)" a relaxing rub down is always nice..

Good luck and Happy Anniversary!

For our first anniversary, I got my husband a Mont Blanc pen for him (he has a lot of meetings with executives, so he really liked it.) He went with 'paperless' and got me my first PDA.
Just a little different take on the 'paper' gifts.

For our first anniversary, I got my husband the traditional "paper" gift. I got him a card...and tickets. You could purchase tickets to a concert, a theatre production, a sporting event, the movies, etc. Also, you could buy (or make!) a gift certificate. Or purchase airline tickets! Or, even get him a magazine subscription! Good luck! Happy Anniversary!

How about making him a memory book of your first year together? Simple, not too expensive and paper! :) Happy Anniversary!

For something different, get him an iPod w/ an engraving that says something like "metal is the new paper" or something like that - or are they made of steel? You could say "steel is the new paper" on the first line, then "Happy 1st Anniversary!" on the 2nd line.
That way, it covers the "paper" tradition, but is actually something he will use.
Happy Anniversary, by the way! :o)
