My husband and I are about to celebrate our 6th anniversary. We don't typically exchange gifts, but I'd like to get him something special this year. Nothing too expensive (under $100). I'd appreciate some ideas. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I bought my husband tickets to Jon Stewart last year for our anniversary. He is so great about giving me stuff that is meaningful usually and I wanted to make it special for him. There are hundreds of concerts and such out there that you can find tickets for reasonably priced.

Or think more small scale - like doing some chore that he hates but is usually his (I occasionally will do the cardboard or take out the trash/recycling for him.)

Good luck.

Hello M.,

I am a romantic and my husband is too, so on special dates like our anniversary or father's day, I try to shoot for gifts that will touch his heart. I make personalized gifts that become keepsakes. I could make you one of these pillows for around $25-$30 and ship it for free:

I got mine Yankee tickets on line, this wasn't too bad $$. I'm getting mine a watch for Fathers day as he collects them and Stauer has beautiful watches for under 100.00 that you can buy on line. hammacher.com also has a beautiful "Walking Liberty Silver Coin" watch that is under 100.00. ( you can get it engraved after it arrives at a local jewelers). A night in a Hotel is always nice alone when done as a surprise....and you can be the surprise.:-) They always love that. There's a company called wealthwood gifts (google it on-line) that sells beautiful crystal champagne chillers that they can be engraved with a copy of your wedding invitation. I've given many as wedding presents and recieved one as an anniversary present. They are lovely not too expensive. Happy Anniversary!

I got my husband a grill...now HE cooks for ME!

Just try to think of the things he likes to do. Maybe a rock climbing gym membership for 6 months, maybe a small power washer, maybe a subscription to Investment magazine. It depends on what his focus is for his spare time. Or, buy something for "the house" that would make your lives together more enjoyable... a Wok, a big, beautiful wind chime or hammock, some art from someone that you both like. Or how about a family membership to someplace fun like the Mystic Aquarium?

Good luck. Try to have fun with this. It makes it easier!

How about tickets to a concert or ballgame? You can usually find some good deals on Craigslist.org

My husband and I try to go out for a special kid free night. Dinner and a movie usually. Just not having to color for a change is worth it.

Congrats!

Have you considered a memory book? Maybe taking some of your favorite photos of your life together & featuring them in an album. You could find a poem that goes with it or a special song to put with it or maybe something that you would write to him. I made one for my husband & he took it to work with hime to place on his desk! He said it was a great gift & one he enjoys at work every day!

Hi Meredith,
Does your husband have any hobbies or special interests? If he is not a sentimental guy, a gift related to an interest will be very enjoyable. Tickets to an event or game ( maybe not the Red Sox, but Paw Sox games are fun & much cheaper. Favorite music group? A collection cds of greatest hits. Movie franchise, like James Bond or Indiana Jones, etc., a collection of DVD's. Handy around the house? Tools or gift certificate to Home Depot.

These aren't romantic, but most guys aren't that romantic and humor us. You know him best! What would HE really enjoy?

You can inject romance with a special dinner and champagne, no kids and a negligee (for you)!

This sounds kinda silly, I am laughing as I write it, but to this day, my husband says this is the best gift I could and did ever give him....... It all depends on the type of person. But my husband NEVER EVER buys himself clothes. Of course I do all the laundry and I swear, he had some things that were close to 8-10 years old. It was almost summer, so I bought him a complete summer wardrobe. Probally 8 pair of shorts, 6 t shirts, 4 tank tops, socks, underwear everything but shoes......... I put it all in a plastic tote, and presented it to him. It must of been over 20 items, he had to return about 2 for not fitting properly, he was SO amazed, that I took the time to do this for him, he hates clothes shopping.........I know this is in no way romantic, but we've been married a while! So just an idea, like I said, depends on the person... My husband still talks about this to this day!!
Happy Anniversary!!
