Does anyone have any suggestions for a good preschool either in the Edgewood area or on the east side of Pittsburgh? My son isn't old enough yet, but if I have to get on waiting lists, I want to do it now. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi M., we are in Edgewood too. I've heard some good things about the Edgewood daycare center in the Presbyterian church building on Swissvale Ave., and I think they also have a preschool program. We are on their waiting list. I've also heard a lot of praise for the Shady Lane preschool in Point Breeze.

My daughter attends the Rodef Shalom preschool - called the Berkman Family Center. You don't have to be Jewish to attend. The teachers and director are lovely. They offer a class for 18 month olds, 2 yrs, 3 yrs, and 4/5 yrs. It's a small, close community of kids and parents. Everyone is nice and welcoming. We were at another pre-school previously that was big and loud and cliquey. I appreciate the Rodef relaxed atmosphere.

The director's name is Mimsie Leyton. She is a doll!

My son attends Arsenal Family and Children's Center in the Friendship area, East Pittsburgh. It is a very nice facility and was started by Dr Benjamin Spock many years ago. It is also very inexpensive. They have part-time preschool classes for 3-5 yr olds.

I second the Edgewood Daycare in the Presbyterian Church. I have known several children who go there. It seems very good.
