My son just turned 5 in December,so he will not start Kindergarten until this fall. He is currently in preschool twice a week, but due to job changes and buying a new home, we have to switch him to a new preschool in our area. Does anyone have suggestions on preschools that enforce learning, and prepares children for kindergarten?? I am looking for somewhere in Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Maple Grove and surrounding area. We live in Otsego, so I am trying to explore my options there also. Thanks.

What can I do next?

This is perfect timing because preschools are registering this week or next week.

If you want your child prepared for Kindergarten, I would consider putting him in one of the district's preschools. Are you in Osseo school district?

If so, they have a couple of options: Discovery has a parent day where you go with him. More for classes are just drop off. You can also check in with your elementary to see if they have a late 5s program.

Best of all, they are very inexpensive and may even have a sliding scale.

Good luck!

My son has been going to Step by Step Montessori (sp?) in Maple Grove for the last 2 yrs and we love it. All though we use it for daycare, it is a very loving, nurturing and learning environment. Our son is 4 and will not be going to kindergarten next year either. My husband and I feel that having our son enrolled there has been the best decision we've ever made concerning him. He learns there, he has fun there and he loves it there!! Good luck:)

S.,

I run a home based Montessori Preschool. I am open from 7:30am to 6:00pm. I have all of the Montessori materials you would find at a school but in a loving home environment. I have my masters in education and my montessori certificates. I also have a bs in Elementary education and a minor in child develpoment. Please visit my website at www.LittleHandsMN.com for more information. I would love to set up a tour with you and answer any questions you have about Montessori. We currently have summer openings. Thanks J.

Have you looked thru the school district ECFE classes? I am not sure what school district you will be in but we go to the Osseo ecfe classes and I have been impressed, we live in NE PLymouth near Maple Grove. That is an option

I know that ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) programs have School Readiness preschool programs that focus on getting them ready for kindergarten. I have not tried them yet (not old enough) but have heard others that have really liked them. Ours is specifically the Anoka Hennepin District, but others have it as well in other variations.
