Hey mommas,
My 2 year old daughter will be 3 next month. I am due with baby #2 in September.
I see that it's time to register for classes for next year. She'll be 3 years, 7 months come next September.

Should I keep her in a 2 day/week MDO or do I put her in preschool? I know it sounds silly, but I am not sure at what age you put them in preschool. I like the MDO she is in and will just keep her there if I should.
If you suggest preschool, we live in Carrollton. Any good schools you recommend (and do 2, 3 or 4 days a week). Willing to drive to Lewisville, Coppell.
HELP!
Thanks!

What can I do next?

M.,

If you like where she is at now, I would stay put. Her life will change too in September and the familiar will be comforting. Think ahead though about how her routine will fit in with the baby's. You would hate to have to wake the baby just to pick her up at school.

I have my almost 3 y/o in First Baptist Carrollton as well.
I put my PreK son in last year. It was the first time we've ever done MDO/Preschool. I highly recommend the school. I have had ZERO complaints. I like the fact that it is shorter and I can still get naptime at home. They offer extended care from 11:45 to 1:45 for a small fee. Open enrollment begins February 4th. Their number is ###-###-####. Email me if you want to chat more.

For sure put her in preschool. She is old enough to really start learning. Rule of thumb, how ever old they are is how many days they can handle. She could easily go two days if not three. Especially, if you have one on the way you and she will enjoy being away.
Coppell Child Development Center is Coppell is a great preschool. It is Christian Based and they offer music, fun and fitness, computer, science, and spanish while they are there during the week. They don't advertise because of word of mouth. They start open enrollment on Feb. 1 but you can go see it anytime. They are strictly a preschool and run from 8:45 to 2:00 daily. Three year olds can go T/Th or M/W/F.
THere number is ###-###-####. They run like a little school.
Check it out!!They also have a good network of mom's involved with MOPS and Early Childhood PTA.

Hi M.,
I can't speak to whether to put her in MDO or preschool, but my kids, 2 & 4, go to A Child's Garden Montessori School. It is located on Old Denton Road and Whitlock. I LOVE the place. Both are learning so much and as far as preschools go, they are reasonably priced. They also provide lots of extras, ie music classes, etc, in their curriculum. Their website is http://www.acgmontessori.com/.
Good luck,
A.

My son went to pre-K at Holy Covenant in Carrollton. They have a great child centered 2,3,and 4 day program. The director has been there for 20+ years. The Parent Support Group is also a great way to get involved.

STRINGFELLOW SCHOOL is a wonderful school at the First United Methodist Church in Coppell. I am a mom of three who taught Kinder for 7 years, I currently teach a movement class at Stingfellow 3 mornings a week. We offer CDO (Child's Day Out) and Preschool. At 3 years of age, your child would be in our preschool program. All of our 3,4, and 5 year old teachers are certified teachers. You can choose between 2 and 3 days a week for a 3 year old, but as a teacher and mom I feel she needs to be in some form of a preschool/day out program. Community Registration is coming up on Friday, February 15th. We are open Tues - Fri from 9-2. I encourage you to come by for a tour one day this week.
BTW, my husband and I have been at Fellowship for 9+ years, we lead a hometeam and are involved in the parenting ministry.

Most pre-schoolers are around 3 yrs. old I believe so if you want to start pre-school I would sign up. That's when my little sister started going to pre-school and the same with my sister and me. There are several churches in Coppell who do a pre-school and there are a couple of child care/pre-school places that provide pre-school in the mornings and then child care in the afternoons. I would first look into some of the church pre-schools though. They are cheaper I think, but many will be on a first come first serve basis and some may have wait lists if you don't sign up early enough. My sister went to "Butterfly School" and I forget the name of the church but it's right off of Beltline Rd. near the corner of Beltline/Denton Tapp Rd. If I remember the name of the church I'll let you know, but at the moment it's escaping me. I would just check into several churches around the area and see if they have pre-school programs. Many of them do, and they're usually pretty reputable. Good luck!!:)

You might check into First Baptist Carrollton. They have a preschool that is available five days a week, but you can choose to send your child 2, 3, or 5 days. Preschool is from 8:45 - 11:45 AM with the option of extended stay on Mon - Thursday. My daughter has attended FBC for four years now and we have always been pleased with the program. I will say that we sent our daughter 5 days a week when she was three and she did get a little bored because Mon/Tues and Wed/Thurs were basically repeats. Now that she is in the Pre-K class, they have a "true" 5-day program available.

M.,

I believe that the MDO should be teaching her what she needs to know for kindergarten. Look into their curriculum, and that should help you in your decision. Our preschool bases their curriculum on Frisco ISD, so the kids will be more than ready.

One thing that I would suggest is that if you decide to move, you should do it now. It will be a big adjustment for her when the baby comes, and the least amount of changes during that time, the better. It will be easier for you too.

Congratulations on your new baby!

Age 3 is a good age to start preschool. Most children especially girls are ready for the socialization and education. Find a school in your area that meets your childs needs. January /February is the time to register for this Fall so you will need to be making calls and visit the ones you narrow it down to (2 or 3). Look for a loving staff that acknowledges your child...yes, take them on the tour with you, safety in the building & on the playground and the curriculum. A 9AM-2PM, 2 days a week to start is perfect!

Enjoy this time.

Hi M.,

I have just the ticket! My name is C. and I am a 2day 3yr old preschool teachers aide at First Place Preschool/MDO at First United Methodist in Carrollton! We are located at Hebron and Provience in the main Church blding opposite CCA.

I was born and raised at this church and both my girls( youngest will be graduating Pre-k 4ys this Spring) have been in the MDO/Preschool since birth! I have wrked their on a full-time basis for 8yrs. Right now we are having our IN-House registration but I would suggest calling or coming by and talking to our Director, Lisa O'Rear or Asst. Dir. Ginny Lawler about the 3yr old preschool program(We currantly offer 2(M/W or T/Thurs) 2 day 3's and a 3 day(T/W/Th) 3's and our MDO programs)from 8:45 to 2:15.
It is so awesome to see my class learn new things and I get to be there for the ride of a lifetime! We do lots of cool stuff and incorporate learning letter recong, sounds, numbers, shapes and so much more while they are in play environment. We do circle-times, we start to intoduce center play and my favorite part of being the aide is I get to do all the cool creative arts fun with painting, drawing and coloring. Check us out ###-###-#### or 1251: 2201 E. Hebron Prkwy. Carrollton, Tx 75010. First Place Preschool/MDO and Summer SonShine Program.

I also have a "second" love and that is JEWELRY!! I am an Independent Sales Advisor with a Direct Sales Co. Lia Sophia Jewerly!! I have the best of both worlds. I wrk regular school hours and get off the same time as my oldest.

My daughter was 3 years and 7 months when she started preschool. My husband and I had her in a home daycare setting for 2 years but felt it was time to put her in a more structured environment. So we placed our daughter in Castle Hills Montessori School on Hebron and 121(Carrollton City Limits). She has made tremendous strides there. It is a great school. I had my 3rd child in June. I work 2 days a week as well. It is so nice to be able to spend time with my baby during the day and my 2 other kids are home by 3:30 pm.

My daughter attended Valley Ranch Baptist Preschool (on Beltline and MacArthur) last year and we loved it! All of the teachers were wonderful and the whole environment was very loving, as well as instructional.

I'm sure you'll find the right place for your little one! :o)
