Well, potty training has had a few false starts at our house. We had been trying to use the insert on the big toilet for our daughter and all it really did was scare her. Now that we are using a toddler size potty chair she is doing great :-) My question for all of you wise Mommies is how do we help her make the transition to the big toilet? She only wants to use a little potty which makes leaving the house with her in panties rather than a diaper/pull up very challenging.
We are going through the same thing, but the big potty is Ok at home just not anywhere else!
I have one of these portable, fold up potties that is great. The liners aren't the cheapest, but it is so nice b/c you can use it anywhere instead of the big potty and just throw the liner away. It folds up so small it fits in my purse. http://www.toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=p...

Cute pink potty chairs are at IKEA for 4 dollars. Take it with you, wipes and a sealed coffee can. Use it anywhere you go.Leave one at church, Nana's house, etc.
Maybe not helpful, but more supportive. I used to carry an extra potty seat in the back of the car for my oldest son whie we were potty training... It's a little yuck, but the porta-potty helped till we transitioned to the big-boy potty. Good Luck!
When we were first potty training. We took the little potty with us. We have a jeep and just put it in the back. Before we went in anywhere we just gave dd the opportunity to potty. We did this mostly when traveling b/c they have to go when they have to go even when you are between towns.
My daughter was scared of the big toilet too. So I would put her on it, but then read her a story or play her favorite CD or let her play with her favorite toy to distract her. Also once she started on the "grown up" potty she had a reward system. When she got so many rewards we did something special.

We had a similar problem and although we are still working on successful potty training, she now likes to sit on the big potty. We found a combo insert/step stool and she really likes it. When we bought ours it was at some obscure site and we paid about $25 but it has been well worth it (and now mine will sit on any potty as long as I hold her). Good luck with whatever you do!
some kids feel unstable..with there feet just dangling and no support at all...try getting a step stool or 2 to put under her feet???
