Post C-section Tummy Support

I delivered at Las Colinas Medical Center and was given a wide elastic/velcro girdle type band. It was awesome! I highly recommend one!! With my first c-section I was not given anything like this and I had such a greater comfort and peace of mind with the support. I found that I could stand up straighter and was given back support to help ease the fear of straining my incision. After the first couple of days remember to let the incision breathe each day while you are not going to be moving around.

I had my C-section at Medical City Dallas... and never had to wear anything like that. Maybe it just depends on the doctor or hospital. I had a breezy recovery, and never felt the need for support. Just ask your doctor, and they'll be able to tell you how best to plan.

I had two C-sections, and honestly cannot imagine having anything supportive over the incision.

Just my two cents. You might want to ask your doctor.

I had a c-section and it was great, nothing to it. I delivered at Presby Allen (don't know where you will be) but they provided me with the elastic velcro support thingy. I wore that for a few days, but you really don't need anything. You will be pretty numb in the incision sight for a while, so you really don't feel it. My doctor (Shimer and Shimer) did a pain ball, actually in the incision sight and it was wonderful. The medicine goes straight to the incision so you are not effected by it (i.e. sleepy and out of it). I was up and walking around great the next day, and climbing stairs the day after that (naturally to get the baby and stuff, not exercising). You will do perfectly fine, and it is not as bad as some of the responces have made. Not to mention you forget it all after the cute little cuddly gets here. Good luck, and congrads.

I had a C-section and didn't have anything over it. In fact I didn't want any extra pressure there. Maybe it depends on the type of incision. I know they can do one of a couple different type cuts. Anyway, the best thing I can think of to prepare is go and buy a few more big soft comfy pillows for your bed. You'll want more padding around you for a few nights once you get home.

I'm going to concur with Claudia. You won't really realize it since your body is so numb for the surgery but the dr. will wrap your stomach in a wide elastic band that has velcro. You will wear it while in the hospital and bring it home with you (Med. Ctr. of Lewisville gave me two). That band is really all you need, you just wear it over your regular underwear and tighten or loosen as you need it. Whenever your incision feels better (I didn't need mine after the staples came out 5 days after the birth), you really shouldn't need any extra support. Best wishes on your c-section. I've done both kinds of birth (the c-section was with twins) and I personally thought it was much better and easier to recover from that the vaginal birth. My sister would stronly disagree since she's had three c's. I hope your's goes as well as mine!

I had a both kinds of delivery, a c-section w/my youngest and vaginal w/my oldest. The c-section was the hardest for me for recovery, It took a good 6 wks.

I didn't use anything other than what the hospital gave me when I went home maybe it depends of the doctor/hospital as well which I delivered at Medical City of Dallas.

Yep, hospital gave me a wide elastic/velcro band. I was also at the Medical Center of Lewisville. It's definitely a good idea to ask for a second one because the first one gets a little icky.

I bought one, its like panties and a girdle together buy a bigger size but not to big that it won't hold you in it. However I didn't even use mine because the hospital that I had my baby in put one on me right after my c-section. Theirs I loved it was like an elastic wrap and everyday as my stomach would go down I could tighten. I would buy something like that, it worked wonderful for me and my stomach went back to normal in ONE week. I did breastfeed so that helped in my losing weight too.
