Portable DVD Players - Plano,TX

We have a Sony portable DVD player that is about 3 years old. It will play fine then basically lock up on the movie playing. I have two questions: 1) What portable DVD player would you recommend I get for long car trips and plane travel? and 2) What is the life expectancy of a portable DVD player?

Thanks!

Here's an alternative if you are interested. I bought an Ipod nano, a workout arm band and a set of travel speakers. I put the nano in the arm band and the arm band around the travel speakers. I download movies/tv from itunes to my ipod. It is the perfect size/weight for my toddler to hold and watch in the car/plane and it is small enough I can throw in the diaper bag all the time. Obviously, the screen is small -- so if you want it to work for both your girls -- may not be your solution. Also, you wouldn't have to get the ipod -- you could get one of the cheaper off brand versions.

I have been using this for a year. The arm band protects the ipod so it still looks/acts new.

My husband and I purchased the Trutech portable dvd set from Target (Trutech® Dual 7" PDVD - (LMD-5702RT) about two years ago and we've kept them in the car the whole time and I haven't had a problem yet. My girls have given those dvd players the worst beating ever and they still work, no skipping or anything. I think at the time they were on sale for 89.99 for a set of two. One controls the dvd player and the other you just plug the cord into it and it'll play the same movie. You can take them anywhere as long as you have batteries. I feel like I got more than my moneys worth with that system.

We bought a Sony from Target several years ago. We have had no problems and has been used by our now 9 year old son many times. It has a rechargeable battery and a car connection. So far it has never frozen up - we have not tried any other brands. Sorry just re-read yours was a Sony. Maybe you got a lemon - might contact manuf - but probably just as cheap to purchase a new one. Good Luck.

We bought a Disney DVD player, and really like it. I bought it at Target over 2 yrs ago, so not sure if they still carry it.

It was acting strange recently..just making a noise and cutting out every now and then. I had purchased the extended $19 - 3 yr warrantly from Target, and it was the best thing I did. They fixed it quickly, no questions asked. Also, if they are unable to fix it they send you a brand new unit.. and if they don't have it in stock they send you a Target gift card for what you spent up to 3 yrs after purchase date.

We are so glad we purchased the warranty.. it was piece of mind because we have gone through 4 DVD players and they would always last a little over a year.. right after the warranty expired.

Good luck!

My girls have Phillips portable DVD players, they are around $100 or less when on sale. I bought one at Target and then one online at Walmart.com (and got it pink!).

I like them because they are small enough not too be bulky and lugged around, but the screen size is good and the quality is really nice.

We have the Phillips from Target from about 3 years ago, it's survived several 12-16 hour car trips and 6 flights in a backpack. Has a rechargeable battery and powers with either a lighter adapter or with electricity. So far so good.
