My baby is 3 months old and I haven't gotten an actual period yet but there are times when I am spotting. Is this normal? I nursed my other two but started my period right away with my first because I was not able to nurse her constantly. And I didn't have one until I was done nursting my second.

What can I do next?

I nursed my son exclusively for the first 6 months and I started getting my period within 5 weeks of having him! It is normal to have some spotting, but if it would make you more comfortable, I suggest calling your doctor. Your doctor should be able to verify that everything is normal. According to my OB-GYN every pregnancy is different so this is probably totally normal! As I said, though, just in case- give your doctor a call. Doctors are completely used to handling phone calls and stuff like this!

Hi S.! I am a nursing mother of a 3.5 month old, and I am in the same situation as you. I have had some spotting but no official period. My gyno informed me this is perfectly normal. Hope this helps ease your mind a little bit!

Every postpartum time is different just like every pregnancy is different. Like you I started right away with my first, I didn't have one at all with my 2nd but got pregnant at when he was 3 months and with the third I didn't have one until I was completely finished breast feeding.

Bleeding like this could indicate a hormonal shift. You're older and probably just a little heavier so you may have some other issues going on.

However, you could also be too dehydrated to do both although your body is ready to do both.

My advice is to ask your gp for blood tests to make sure everything is at a normal level, double your water intake and invest in panty liners for the next year.

I had the same problem with my second child. I was told it was normal. I think each time is different and as long as you're not having any complications or pains that everything is fine.

Hi S.!! How are you doing? I just wanted to let you know that spotting and skipping periods are completely normal. Here is a really good website that you can visit. www.medela.com/NewFiles/faq/lam.html I still use this website to help me out. If you still feel uncomfortable don't hesitate to go see your doctor. I have three children as well and I was not successful on the breastfeeding on the first two. Now that I am a SAHM and have a wonderful friend next door to support me I have succeded alot on nursing my third child. My friend next door is nursing her second child, who is nine months, and has not had a period or any spotting what so ever. Every woman's body is different, and I am sure you know that, but the first time I got my "real" period I freaked out. I immediately called my doctor and they told me to relax and said that some women have thier period, and some don't. I hope I have helped ease your mind. Send me a message if you would like to hear anything else. Take care

~S.

I believe spotting is normal. I nursed both my boys for six months and didn't have a real period at all during that time. You should also know that it takes a LONG TIME before you won't have any milk left at all. I haven't nursed for a year and a half and I still have a little milk.
