People or Entertainment Weekly

Okay, so I have enough points on recycle bank to get either People for six months (26 issues) or Entertainment Weekly for a year (52 issues.) Have never had either magazine, so don't know which one might be more entertaining. Have either? Like either better than the other? I don't care for "women's" magazines so much because I could care less about makeup and losing weight, but I do like to read tabloid-ish stories (oh my, I can't believe I admitted it) and things like "Worst Dressed" etc. (I also have an option of picking from lots of different family/women's magazines, but I don't like them and my mom keeps sending me these, anyhow.)

What would you prefer?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

OMG, ladies, after closer inspection of the rewards page - seems they agree with you, because a 6 month subscription to People costs 1100 points and a 12 month subscription to EW costs 400!!!! Lol - I don't have a choice, I'm stuck with EW because I'm not saving points for that long, ha - but obviously People is 6 times as valuable as EW. Oh well, that's life. Thanks for all the input!

Thanks, mommas - probably made the right choice, lol. I too figure that if I'm going to read this kind of stuff, I might as well take it to the extreme - because it's a far cry from the type of entertainment I generally go for. But hey, it's free. ;)

I don't know Entertainment but I get People and what I like are the "real people" stories. They profile people doing impressive, unselfish work and I love that they do that. I also feel it's a little less trashy than other movie star rags. It seems less sensationalizing and broader.

I'd go for People. EW is pretty much focused on movies and TV. People has that too but it also has pretty interesting articles about "regular" people as well, and popular book and music reviews.

I prefer People. When I was in corporate marketing way back in early 1990's, we all got a free People as well as others for free... marketing purposes you know. Anyway, I always enjoyed People.

I like it so much that I have been a regular subscriber since I left corporate marketing years ago.

My vote is People. My other favorite is Cosmo.

I personally prefer Entertainment Weekly, because it is less on the tabloid-ish side and a bit more about the industry. So, if I were you, I'd choose People, because EW doesn't really have so much on the fashion/love life gossip -- People does.

I like EW so much better. I like the fluff entertainment and not long articles about this or that.

I like seeing short little blurbs. If I want serious reading it's going to be something more serious.

I used to purchase People, but it is such a rag now. They use the paparazzi to chase down celebrities and their children.

I like all of the Book, Movie, Music and TV reviews in Entertainment Weekly.

I do not care who is married to who, who is divorcing who, having affairs. I just want the entertainment information. I love hearing about how these projects get made and how well the actors get along.

I love Entertainment Weekly and miss my subscription. I really don't like People. It's so full of trash talking gossip and stuff I don't care about. Best and worst dress actresses? Not interested. It's a rare day that I pick up a copy of People. The last one I bought was when there was an interview with the Gosselin twins. I have to admit to feeling a little dirty for having bought it.

for whatever it's worth... we have EW now and I hate it. I don't watch very much TV or movies now, so that might have something to do with it. Most of the shows they cover are too violent/trashy for my tastes now. So it's pretty pointless for me to read it. And some (not most) of the covers are just awful. Like a cover of American Horror Story or whatever. Just gory, ugly stuff and I don't want my kids seeing the covers and getting curious.

People is better because of the "real people" and inspiring stories they include, in addition to the celebrity gossip you seek.

But People is too expensive, so I don't have it. And eh... I don't crave that type of information anyway.

EW focuses on entertainment projects - movies, tv, music, books, etc.

People focuses on celebrity gossip and light person-centered stories.

If you want a straight up, short-attention-span magazine, US Weekly would fit the bill. We have a free subscription to that and we keep the latest issue int he bathroom. :-D

I subscribe to EW. I like it. I like people, too but not enough to subscribe to it - too expensive!
