I have a 21 month old daughter who has almost 20 teeth now. When I asked my dentist how old she should be before she saw a dentist, she said 3 years old! Have any of you taken your younger ones to the dentist? Did you take them to a pediatric dentist or just your regular dentist? Any pediatric dental recommendations? Also, I live in the West Chester/Liberty Township area and am wondering if someone can recommend a dermatologist for me?

Thank you so much!

Thank you to everyone who helped me find a pediatric dentist. My daughter had her first appointment this morning, and I loved her dentist. Thank you all so much!

My son has been going since a little before his 1st birthday. Go see a Ped Dentist and they will be more than happy to help out. My regular dentist (whom my hubby and I see) said the same thing about not seeing him until he was 3. The ADA suggests before or around 1st birthday. I live in Middletown, so I don't think you want the name of my son's dentist, but if you do let me know.

Hi M.! We took our boys when they each turned 2 to see the dentist the first time. We live in the West Chester/Liberty Township area and we've seen a couple of pediatric dentists. One is Dr. Sherman - she is off of Cin-Day Rd. by Ace Hardware - that practice is pretty fabulous! Sadly, we don't go there any more because our insurance doesn't cover them anymore. I was given her name through a pediatric dentist through Cinci Children's. It is that doctor - Dr. Dock that we see now see. He is through Children's, but we see him in Mason at the outpatient clinic. I don't know of any derm. in our area, but I am also seeking one for myself, so if I come across one that's good, I'll let you know! HTH, H.

I friend of mine is a pediatric dentist and he had me bring my kids in on their 2nd birthday. Their first visit is really getting them used to the chair, counting teeth, and showing them how to floss. They sometimes do a flouride treatment if needed, but not often. My kids love the dentist and really take extra time each night so that Dr. John will be impressed with how well they brush. I don't know any pediatric dentists in your area, but I suggest going to the Cincinnati Dental Society website to pull names of dentists in the area. I don't know any dermatologists either. Sorry, no help there!

M.,

I took my son to a dentist when he was two. The dentist told me that she recommended all chidren see a dentist at two and if there are no problems, they would come back at age three. If there are problems noticed (heavy plaque), she would see the child again at 2 1/2. Are you wiping your daughter's teeth with a wet washcloth or using a small, soft toothbrush to clean whatever you can? If not, I would recommend it. My son is almost 12 and still goes to a pediatric dentist. He sees Dr. Rubin in Springdale - http://www.smiles4kids.net/
We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dr. Rubin. He is great!! I also LOVE Dr. Pong, but my son usually sees Dr. Rubin. I also live in Liberty Township, so it is a little bit of a drive, but it is definitely worth it. Sorry, but I don't have a recommendation for a dermatologist for you. Good luck!!

Hi...As for a pediatric dental..my son sees Dr. Matusak. He's 2 and went for first time several months ago. She is very nice and is wonderful with young children. She is at Children's outpatient center in Fairfield. A dermatologist, is with Wright State Dermatologists. They have several offices, but the one we go to is in Middletown, they just moved into the new hospital right off 75. So, wouldn't be far. We see Dr. Marc Darst but, my son has been seeing his partner since he was 8mths old, Dr. Julian Trevino. So, whether for you or your child they see both. Prefer Dr. Darst, but both are good. We have seen many docs for multiple things, so if have any questions feel free to ask.

Hello,
I live in W. Chester, and I actually take both my kids to a Pediatric dentist who is located in Springboro. Sounds far, but it is about a 20 minute drive for me. Her name is Dr. Jody Wright, and she has a private practice, Wright Smiles Pediatric Dentistry. Her office is so kid friendly, my kids actually love it there. For littler ones (like my son- who just turned 3) she has a jungle room, and a space room. She has thought of every last detail, and is WONDERFUL with the kids and the parents. It is very clean and the staff is friendly. She has toys for little ones, and video games for older kids in the waiting area. My daughter has been seeing her since she was 2, and she is now 6. My son first saw her when he was 18 months. I would highly, highly recommend her. She is on Revmal rd. in Springboro- you can google her to get her phone number. She also has openings in the evening, I think on Tuesdays, and Sat. mornings as well. Anyway, for the number of times you take kids to the dentist during the year, the 20-25 minute drive is totally worth it. Good Luck!!

We used to live in West Chester and we used (and still use even though we now live in Dayton) Dr. Steven Moore. His office is on Tylersville Rd near the corner of Cin-Day Rd. We have been going there for several years. We took our son just before he turned 3. Unless there is a problem with there teeth, 3 should be fine. Like someone else said, the first visit is just to get the used to sitting in the chair and someone looking/touching/cleaning their teeth.

Dr. Dock is a great guy and a wonderful dentist - located in Mason at The Children's hospital facility. Call them to find out if he goes to more than one location.
As to dermatologist for Mom, I just started seeing a nurse practitioner in Blue Ash with Dr. Kitzmiller. They just opened Sanctuary Dermaspa so they can help with all kinds of issues.
If the derm is for your child, look into who is available through Children's or ask your pediatrician to recommend someone.
