Peanut Butter Icing - Glendale,AZ

Does anybody has a good recipe for a peanut butter icing, frosting, or cake filling? My younger son is turning 3 tomorrow and he loves peanut butter so I'd like to try and do a chocolate cake with some sort of pb filling between the two layers. I was thinking of whipping Cool Whip and peanut butter together but I'm not sure if it will work and I'd rather not waste a bunch of food trying it out. Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much! I have the cake cooling right now and although Betsy C's suggestion sounds delicious, I don't have any pudding mix on hand so I plan to try the recipe provided by Grace R. Sounds yummy and I'm sure my little guy will love it. :)

A very tasty, very easy peanut butter frosting ( needs refridgerating) is about a cup of peanut butter and a pkg of instant vanilla pudding blended with about a half a cup of cold milk. This works with either a 13x9 cake or a layer cake, depending on how thick you frost it you may need to double the recipe for a layer cake. I have used this on chocolate cake and it was delish!!!

Peanut Butter Frosting

2 cups Powdered Sugar (Confectioners Sugar)
¼ cups Margarine (softened)
½ cups Peanut Butter
1 Tablespoon Milk

Preparation Instructions:
Cream together sugar, peanut butter, and margarine. Slowly add milk until icing is of desired consistency or just enough so that it spreads. Use this to top your favorite cakes, brownies, or bars. (It's especially good on chocolate cake)

My baker told me to start with buttercream frosting and incorporate peanut butter til you like it. My husband's childhood birthday cake is spice cake with peanut butter icing...yuck, I know. But I always did it with powdered sugar, milk, and PB...it was always too heavy!!

Good luck...and Happy Birthday to your son!!

I don't have a recipe for you either but I work at a grocery store and no for a fact that Albertson's carries PB icing you can buy...maybe your local grocery store or cake specialty shop can sell you some? You can always ask for a sample and taste it before you buy it that way too!

Cool whip wont work but Whipping top will. You can find it at Smart & Final or a local cake supply. If you whip Cool Whip it will get very gooey...whipping top will too if its over beaten.

This recipe is almost the same as the one already listed however if you read the notes from the other people that have made the frosting it states to use butter instead of margarine because margarine is more oily. Here is the link and you can read what people have done. A lot of people changed the amount of the powdered sugar and they used milk instead of cream.
