Considering buying a playset/house for our backyard. Our kids are 3 and 4.5. Something fun, sturdy and safe.. yet economical. Do you have any you LOVE or HATE? Thanks!

I got one off of Craig's list... Just the basic slide/fort/swing playset... kids like it... or did before the last move.

We got our own wood from either Lowe's or Home Depot and my husband built it himself with his own design and it came out great! He also got a slide, made a rock climbing wall and left a space underneath for a sandbox. It is about seven years old and still in great shape. If I remember right, it costs us approx. 5-6 hundred dollars. Much less expensive than the ones that are kits. Almost forgot....he also added rings and two swings.

I am a fan of Little Tykes, but was disappointed at how short a time one of their sets would last my children. (Durable, but the weight allowances are smaller.)

So my husband and I decided to get one from Lowes and we will *never* do that again. You can get sturdier lumber and build your own for much less money. The weight allowance is also questionable if you have more than two children. We have three children, but will move before they get so big as to make the weight allowance an issue. This set will not be going with us.

We got one from Walmart. It's a wooden one from Adventure Playsets. They have a lot of cute ones to choose from which are reasonably priced. We have had it for 3 years and have had no problems, very sturdy. My kids use it every day in the summer.

little tikes makes really fun ones...We have two and the whole neighborhood loves them!!!! and the slide with climbing thing can fit six kids safely on the bench inside...I have witnessed it.

We bought a metal swingset from Toys R Us for about $300 last summer and it is okay. If I had to do it all over, I would definitely have bought a wooden one!

I second the Craigslist idea. I know someone who got a super nice one, brand new for really cheap because the owners were moving and didnt have room for it.

You can find all kinds of things on that site. Love it.

Is your husband handy? My husband just built one for our girls, ages 3 and 6. It is much sturdier than the kits they sell, and was a fraction of the cost. I was surprised how easily and quickly he built it. He bought the lumber and screws at Home Depot, a few swingset pieces online, and the swings, slide, rings, and glider at Menards. This set will last until our girls are all grown up. If you google swinset designs, you can find some plans. If you want any more info about ours, send me a message! Good luck!
