Okay to Hang This Painting Here?

I have a painting of an overflowing fruit bowl with scroll-y designs and the word "Toscana" in really pretty script on it. It was hanging in my breakfast room at my old house. There is no place for it in the kitchen area of my new home. It is the perfect size and color scheme for the spot at the top of the entryway stairs. Do you think it would look nice there, being that it is a painting of food? : )

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I hung the painting. The colors look great. I will leave it there and see how I feel. Thanks for your input!!

Some of the most famous paintings in history are food. I'm sure they weren't just hung in the kitchen ;)

If it looks good there, no one is going to walk up the stairs, and snicker that it's a kitchen painting. I think you're good! If you like it there, hang it there. The is not "rule" for artwork. I think it's kind of sad, when art is designated to certain rooms and themes. I mean, it's art! Where is the creativity in relegating it to a one room piece? Art is supposed to be universal, you can't put it in a box (err...room.) Just my opinion.

If it's the perfect size and color scheme I would definately put it there. I don't think art has to match the purpose of the room. If that were the case, we'd all have rubber ducky paintings in our bathrooms and paintings of naked people in our bedrooms. I think the Toscana part makes it more of an ode to Tuscany and the Tuscan style. I would get to the top of the stairs and think....hmm, have they been to Italy, or have they decorated up here in the style of a Tuscan villa? Then I would probably look around your upstairs for that style. I would not think hmm. fruit. SHouldn't that be in a kitchen.

Hang it. Leave it for a week. If it doesn't fit there, take it down. That's the funny thing about paintings... ;o)

Your home your business. I hang all kinds of paintings in my house where they will fit. My personality in decor is ecclectic. So you will find the unexpected.

Besides if you love to entertain with food then why not put a symbol of your passion at the front door so people can know what to expect coming to your home? Again your home, your business. The choice is yours. I say go for it.
