I need some suggestions on how to proceed with nighttime potty training. She almost four and a half and still wearing pull-ups at night. She is fine at nap time without anything and occasionally she wakes up in the moring dry, but not very often. Any ideas would be great!

What can I do next?

Try taking any kind of drink away from her 1 hr before bedtime and have her use the potty before she goes to bed. Also get her up when you go to bed and go again, that will train her that if she has to go during the night to get up and go.

I hope this works for you.

I don't have any suggestions for keeping her dry overnight, but I can tell you I have a 10 year old step-daughter who still wets the bed several times a week. I don't know if the problem is stress related or just that her bladder didn't grow with her, but if you can't get the night time wetting stopped, maybe have her checked out for a medical problem.

Hi A.-
The secret is to not allow any drinks after dinner. Then make sure that she uses the potty right before getting into bed. With that said, there are just some kids that are bed-wetters and that is due to the fact that there is something physically wrong, ie- their bladder hasn't grown large enough yet for their body size or they are just such sound sleepers that their body isn't getting the signals that they need to wake up and go. If cutting off evening drinks and going right before bed doesn't work you should schedule some time with your pedatrician to explore your options.

Hello A.,

First you want to limit liquids before bedtime. Then prior to bedtime make sure she goes to the potty. She should be fine all night. However all children are different. I think there is a product that you can purchase that children can wear in case of accidents. Like a panty liner you would have to look at target or somewhere like that. Just explain to her that now that she is a big girl she doesn't need a pull -up at night anymore. IF she isn't wearing a pullup chances are she'll get up to use the potty if she has to go. Most little girls don't like accident feeling. Hope that helps, C.

Here is an idea and call me silly. Just take off the pull-up. My friend said the only way her daughter got trained at night was she forgot to put her pull up on. It might be messy but she might be going at night because it's easy to go in her pull up.

Good Luck!
