Needing New Pediatrician

After much research and startling information, my husband and I have come to the conclusion that we no longer want to vaccinate our son. He's had his vaccinations up until now (the 12 month vaccines being his last). I'm wanting to find a new pediatrician that doesn't push vaccines as much as our current doctor does (which according to him, my son will need more vaccines until he reaches about 24 months or so). I'm hoping to find a doctor either in the Richardson or Plano area. Any information and help is appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi T.,

Try Dr Bain, she is located in Frisco at Legacy and Lebanon. Although I don't use her, I interviewed her and know that she is willing to skip vaccinations. I think that you will like her philosophy in regards to overvaccinating our children.

T.,

I'm with you on that decision, and it is difficult to find a pediatrician who is sympathetic. I called all around the metroplex and was told over and over the doctor wouldn't accept us unless we vaccinated COMPLETELY and ON SCHEDULE. There was no allowance for a parents' personal authority and concerns. We finally found Dr. Tammy Kennedy, and she has been wonderful - not really supportive of the decision, but willing to take us anyway. There are 3 female pedis in her office at Inwood and Lover's (behind Inwood Theatre), and the phone number is ###-###-####.

Best wishes, and bravo for doing your own research and making a truly informed decision!

I am one of those parents that do not give vaccinations until later in my child’s life (I give them when entering Kindergarten). You will have a hard time finding a doctor that will not suggest immunizations, so my suggestion is if you like your doctor and he/she is already familiar with your child, just be up front with your doctor stating that you are not in agreement with immunizing and that you do not want to have their medical views pushed on you. Most doctors are aware of many mothers that do not vaccinate so this shouldn't be a problem. I use Dr Frank at Willowbend Pediatrics and he and his fellow doctors in his practice have been a great.
Now on another note... not to be negative or to scare you, but since you have already vaccinated your child for a full year, any damage that might come of an immunization has been done. The damage comes from the 2nd round of immunizations (the booster) and from what you have said you have already had these done. In the future, don't immunize your child until 2 years of age or later when his/her own immune system has been developed. If you are a breastfeeding mom you can gain a lot of comfort knowing that your child takes on your immunities through your breast milk lowering any risks of health issues.
Good luck with your doctor search and I am positive you will be happy with your decision, especially for any future children you may have.
