Does anyone have any moving boxes they don't need -- and are planning to throw away? I would love to come and pick up if possible!!!

What can I do next?

The liquor store. BEST. PLACE. EVER. My family and I have moved 15 times in 10 years, so we know the liquor stores well. They have the perfect boxes for moving glass and other precious items because they have the seperators. You can take them out if you don't need them anymore. Call the night before and tell them you'll take all their boxes if they don't cut them down.

Craigslist or Freecycle in your area would be great ways to find this!

I have brought a TON of used moving boxes to our local U Haul. Ours went to Roanoke. They put them in one of their storage facility garages. If that is too far, call around and ask the U Haul places near you. They should give them for free because they are used.

My friend just moved and actually asked some local convenience stores near her home for boxes. Just another idea.

Try the fast food places. I used to work for Burger King and we would give them away.

Take care if you pick up free boxes at a grocery or any food store. They can have food spills in them (like dried goo from broken eggs--really) and can have bugs, I regret to say. Boxes that contained dry, packaged goods like cereals or pasta should be OK, but I'd avoid boxes that contained "wet" or refrigerated goods that could leak -- egg cartons, yogurt, etc. I know it's all free but you don't want your stuff in a dirty box. Liquor store boxes probably have much less risk of any stuff spilled in them. Also ask office supply stores if they have boxes they give away.

Craigslist always has them listed. You have to act quick though, they go fast.

Go to your local grocery store. They have boxes all the time.

Go to Michaels as well - ALL of their boxes are free and they destroy (recycle) the ones that are not picked up by customers!!! They have ALL different kinds of boxes.

Go to your local Books-A-Million, Barnes and Noble, etc. as they have boxes. Call before you go as some places have stupid policies in place...but check it out!!

Also check with your local florist! They always have lots of boxes from vases and long boxes from fresh flowers that work well for longer, hard to pack items.
