Need Non-Vax Friendly Ped in S. Kansas City/Grandview, Mo for Special Needs Son

My family is moving to the Kansas City/Grandview, MO area the first week in March and I am desperately seeking a good ped. I have two boys and one on the way. My youngest is a DiGeorge baby and has some special needs, one of which is a compromised immune system. We have determined not to vaccinate our children. I would love to find a good supportive pediatrician to stand in my corner on the vax issue when dealing with my son's 9 other specialists at Children's Mercy.

Any good suggestions that I can follow up?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to the momma's who suggested their fav peds in the area. It looks like I'm going to see if I can get in with Dr. Brooks at Town Plaza Family Practice. After a lot of looking, he seems to be the best choice for our family which has chosen not to vaccinate our 2 boys, one of which is a special needs baby (DiGeorge Syndrome). He knows how to support health naturally and is even up to date on such conditions as Yeast Overgrowth (which results from antibiotic usage) where other specialists I've seen have "poopoo'ed" it as being non relevant.

Thank's again.....I am really impressed with the Mamapedia network and will definitely use it again!

Blessings!

I like Micheal Kasper in Lee's Summit. He is part of pediatric associates which is a large ped group in the area. My son had many congenital heart defects and he gave us great support. Also look into www.chdfamilies.org We have many families with children with digeorge in our group.

We love Dr. MacEntire at Preferred Pediatrics in Lee's Summit. I'm not sure how he is on vacinations, we've always gotten ours, but he's friendly with the docs at Children's Mercy and always takes time to answer our questions and if he doesnt know the answer, he finds out and then gets back to us. www.preferredpediatrics-ls.com

Hi, now I'm not a mom but I work with children ages newborn to 12 years old and several have special needs, my old pediatrician is Dr. Richard Charette at C3 Pediactricts at St. Jo Medical Center in KC. He is a very good doctor when you come in and have questions he will also tell the parents what to do also to stay healthy or whatever the problem is. I also have special needs and he always took excellent care of me and, my mom. Well, good luck with your search, and the move, and the kids!

Hello, and welcome to the Greater KC area! I am the information and resource specialist for the Missouri Developmental Disabilities Resource Center, which is a part of the Institute for Human Development located at UMKC. I provide information, resource and referral to individuals with disabilities and their families all over the state of Missouri.
First, I would suggest that you give me a call (phone number is below) and let me try to set you up with a parent mentor through our "Sharing Our Strengths" program--this is a free program where we match trained mentors with other parents who may be new to the area, new to the experience of disability, or may just have a question or issue they want to discuss with someone who may share a similar experience. We do have mentor parents who are not in favor of vaccines, and can probably direct you to a vaccine neutral physician for your child or family.
Another thing I would encourage you to do is become a part of the EFECT parents support group, which includes both face-to-face meetings and an online list serv where parents of children with disabilities can share information. I know there are families on the EFECT list serv that do take theri children to pediatricians in the area who are vaccine neutral. If you become a part of this group, you can go on the list serv and ask the other parents about who uses a vaccine neutral pediatrician, and probably get some feed back on their hours, location, office staff, etc. You can find this group located at www.efect.org. Please note that it does take a couple of days to get approved for the list serv group
Please feel free to call me--I would love to provide any assistance that I can, and again, welcome to KC!
Sincerely,
J. Hatfield-Callen
