My family (husband and two children (boy - 2 1/2 and girl - 5 months) are moving to the Kansas City area at the end of June and would love to get suggestions on where to rent. My husband will be based at Children's Mercy Hospital with the U of Missouri. We will only be there for two years, so we would like to just rent. We are mainly interested in a townhouse......but what is key to me is to be in a newer area with stores within a reasonable distance and activities for my children (a preschool for my son). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone part of the medical residency or fellowship programs at the U of Missouri at KC?

Thank you for your time!!

Hello and Welcome to Kansas City. I have lived here all my life and love it!!! You have your beautiful 4 seasons(although I am getting tired of snow and ice.) anyway I would suggest. Raymore, Mo. it is a new and upcoming area it is south K.C. and Children's Mercy is right down 71hwy 15-20 minutes. Raymore has great schools (I am a preschool teacher there) Parks and rec has a great park and sports for the kids check it out online!! hope that helps

Lee's Summit is a really nice, built up city. It's about 25 minutes or so from CMH. It's the "new" place to live. There are tons of restaurants and stores, good hospitals, lots of preschools, etc. Good luck!

I would highly suggest somewhere in Johnson County, Kansas. Shawnee in the 66218 or 66226 zip code would be a 20 minutes highway drive to CM. It is a newer area with great schools and there are several new townhomes in the area. Good luck!

I am not part of Children's Mercy, but my company has them as a client (and it has recently become my case) so I am becoming familiar with their HR. Also, I have a friend that is finishing up her fellowship (may already be finished) in pediatrics. Not sure if it's ER or not.

I can check to see if she knows anything.

I live in Olathe which is on the Kansas side in Johnson county. I love it there is tons of growth and the schools are great. I go to UMKC's nursing school which is next door to Childrens Mercy and it takes me 20-30 min depending on traffic. Olathe is very safe with tons of restaurants and shopping in town and nearby. When I moved here I went to apartment search and they helped me find a townhouse to rent.
