Hi V., a child should be a year old and 20 pounds to be in a forward-facing carseat; however if they reach the age of one and are under 20 pounds, you may want to wait. But if they are 20 pounds and just under a year old, they should be in the front facing, 5-point harness carseat for safety reasons.

Most rear facing car seats have a weight limit of 20 lbs and then you have to get a new one so when my son was over 20 lbs we got him a forward facing seat...

Hi, you should look at your carseat's manual. It will tell you the weight limits for rearfacing. You can probably find it online if you don't still have the manual. If you are just asking in general terms. You should keep all babies rearfacing as long as possible. it is much safer. Our seat can keep purs rearfacing until 33 pounds.

you have to be 1 year old and 20 lbs, but if she ways 20 lbs before a year, she still has to be rear facing until she turns 1 year old.

Check the laws in your state, or with your ped. A general rule is when your child is one year, and 20 lbs.

You need to wait until she is 1 year old. Some of the carrier seats will only hold the baby until they reach a weight of 22lbs. If that is the case, then you will have to get a seat that is the convertible kind (can be rear-facing and front-facing) to put her in. It is much roomier, and then when she is a year old, you just turn it to be front-facing.

When your child turns 1 year old you can turn the car seat around. Your child's pediatrician should advise you on this as well.

I looked this up and found that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that your child be rear facing until they are at least a year old and a minimum of 20 lbs. It's best to be rear facing for as long as possible. You need to check the weight restrictions on your car seat to find out what the maximum weight is to ride rear facing. For instance, my car seat can be rear facing for 5-33 lbs and forward facing for 20-40 lbs. Hope this helps!!

1 year old now... used to be when they could sit up at 6 months but the rules changed... if i was a baby i wouldn't like to be looking at the back of the seat until a year old though... think i turned mine around a few weeks before he turned a year...

My son was 10 months old, but he weighed 25lbs. The doctors told me to wait until he was one, but he would cry every car ride so when he hit 25lbs. we turned him around and car rides became peaceful. The doctor will tell you when to turn it around or atlest Ethans did but she is a great doctor who offers all the little info.if your really not sure talk to her doctor and see what she/he says, Thats what their there for!!!

Any child under 1 yrs of age should be rearfacing. Most infant carseats are up to 20lbs. If your child is under 1, but over 20lbs then a convertable carseat facing rear is what you should be looking for. After her 1st birthday you can turn the convertable carseat around to face foward.

V.,

I'm pretty sure it's over 20 lbs and when they can sit upright on their own.
You can always ask your pediatrician or the local police department for the local laws.

They must be at least 1 year before you can turn them forward facing and most guides say 1 year and weigh 20lbs. I know we were glad when my son was old enough he was so long he had to bend his legs when his seat faced backwards.

From everything that I have read, your little one needs to be at least one year of age AND at least 20 pounds. If they reach the weight before the height, you still need to have them rear facing until BOTH are reached.

Hope that helps,

TN law states the child must be BOTH... 20 lbs. and 1-year-old to be facing forward. With my oldest, we turned her around at 11 months b/c she was 24 lbs. already and her feet touched the back of the seat (we had her in a convertible carseat at that point).
Hope that helps :)
