Hi Moms!!! My husband's bday is coming up in Feb and I plan to surprise him with an unexpected romantic night together ALONE. haha! I'm so excited as we haven't really done anything like this since our daughter was born 2 years ago. Here are my ideas so far....the friday before his bday (so he isn't expecting it), I plan to drop a little clue in his truck so when he leaves work he'll see it. It will then explain to him to go home and find other clues that will lead him to me somewhere in Houston. Once he gets home, clues will basically tell him to get dressed, pack, and lead him to a very nice hotel downtown where I will be at the bar in a sexy dress. I really want the clues to be like a rhyme or at least a little fun for him to read. Oh and I haven't found a hotel yet either. Any suggestions or ideas let me know. I was thinking to take him to dinner and then somewhere else fun or interesting before we retire to the bedroom for a night cap. I'm not familiar with downtown so ladies help with ideas. I'm a romantic but sometimes challenged when it comes to creativity, haha. Thanks!!!!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the great ideas!!! I surprised my husband this past friday. I left the 1st envelope in his truck which led him home, 2 envelope was on top of his clothes that I laid out for him, then I had a limo driver pick him up and in the limo was the 3rd envelope, and the last envelope was at the front desk when he got to the hotel. He was completely surprised! I also took a rather nice picture of myself and cut it up in pieces so with each envelope he got a piece of the picture (a little teaser till he got to me). We stayed at Hotel Zaza which was awesome. At dinner I gave him his birthday card which had a complete picture of me (that way he doesn't have to tape the one cut up, haha). We had an amazing time and I know that he felt special. Thank you so much for all the ideas...he felt special and it was definitely a night we'll both remember for a long time!!!!! I'm very grateful that the limo service at hotel played along and helped me pull this off for him!

Hilton downtown. Go to priceline.com or cheaphotels.com to get a deal! They have a great bar down there you can stand by! I kidnapped hubby one time and flew him to San Francisco to a 49er game...it was the best!

P.S. Pack his bag for him....just tell him to get dressed and meet you!

Hi - Magnolia Hotel on Texas. http://www.magnoliahotelhouston.com/houston.aspx
Great Boutique hotel and not real expensive. Rates online run around $125/night. Be sure to sign up for their newsletter and book over the internet (either their site or expedia). Close to Minute Maid, Toyota Center. They have a free beer/wine reception (5-7p i think), fresh cookies and milk at 9p and breakfast int he morning. If you wanted to stay there at the hotel for dinner, the restaurant is actually part of an open lobby - believe it or not it is very quaint. My husband and I go there in the summer for "baseball weekends" and catch the game on Fri, Sat and Sun. They have Houston's only rooftop pool/hot tub so the views are really pretty.

Have fun!!

First off. If money is no object then go anywhere in the Galleria area and you will find nice restaraunts and hotels in that area. I went to the Westin and it was very nice and they even layed chocolates on your pillow with bathrobes.
In the truck you can write something like this:
Now that you're here and work is ahead,
Today is just the beginning, cause tonight ain't dead.
So have a good day in all the ways that you can,
Cause when it's over, I'll be waiting for my man.

when he gets home, have everything already packed in a bag or you can already have the bag with you(that's what i did) laying on the bed with a note that says:
all you have to do is shower, shave and change
then follow the directions and you're find Ms. Thang (ME)
Once you arrive and receive the note
Follow the instructions, for it's no joke.
Look to the left then look to the right,
Because Baby it's definitely on tonight.
I did something like this for my first wedding anniversary and it was so romantic and fun and funny. He thought it was hilarious and he enjoyed the clues I left him.
This is just an idea. Good Luck

the hotel depends on your budget.... Hotel Icon is outstanding but can be pricy ( there is a great jazz club across the street though)

Hotel ZaZA is also " over 5 star" but you can book it on travelocity for 169 a night...... it is right by the Museum of natural science

I think the rest got cover by pp

My husband and I stayed at the Magnolia Hotel downtown a few years ago and it was very nice and pretty reasonable, if I remember correctly. It's not a huge plac, more like a boutique-type hotel, modern. I think we had dinner at Vincents or Nino's on Dallas. Ruggles is a great place too. I think anything you guys do is going to be special~just being without children is a treat! ha!!
Good luck and have a blast!!

To avoid having two cars at the hotel, order a car to pick him up from the house. (A Towne Car won't cost much at all--maybe $50-75--especially just to pick him up at the house and drop him off at the hotel.) Lay out his clothes and pack a bag for him. You take everything with you besides whatever you want him to wear to meet you. Don't leave him responsible for bringing anything but himself. (Make lists, so you don't forget anything, like his underwear or razor. Tel him to shave before he leaves for work, so you can take the razor with you, but don't tell him that you want to take the razor with you! Just tell him that you want him to shave first and the reason is a surprise. He'll wonder, but he won't know until he gets home tha tyou've got something up your sleeve.) Go ahead of time to decorate the hotel room with candles and flowers. If you buy a candle or two at Bath and Body Works, you can get some sample scents to take with you. (Sensual Amber is very sexy.) You can also get a wallflower for the bathroom, so you don't have to go in there to blow it out before you go to sleep. Anyway, they're good about giving samples. Get some flowers--whatever you like, doesn't have to be roses--and sprinkle the petals outside the door. (Don't sprinkle them in the room, because they'll start to stink before the staff comes to vacuum.) Speak with the hotel staff (probably Housekeeping) about leaving the petals in the corridor until a certain time. Otherwise, they'll vacuum them up. Set flowers up in the room. You don't need to go out and get vases; just lay them across the vanity and the dresser, etc.

Don't leave him too many notes at home because he'll take too long to get to you. In fact, don't even talk to him after he gets home, and don't tell him that you're sending a car. Leave him in the dark, so you can maintain control. (That might make it more sexy for him, that you're taking charge--don't know your dynamic.) Have the car there by a certain time. Tip the driver and the doorman and maybe the concierge to give notes to your husband. Have one in the car when he gets in. Ask the driver to speak with the doorman, to alert him to your husband's arrival. That way, the doorman can greet him by name and maybe hand him a note or direct him to the concierge who will hand him a note. Each note will be sealed in an envelope--and maybe with a kiss--for discretion. Make the restaurant staff aware of the occasion, so they can seat you at an appropriate table, after he meets you at the bar (?). Maybe someone can suggest dancing within a mile. If so, see if there's a hotel shuttle that can transport you to and from--usually complimentary. If not, a cab should not cost too much for up to one mile. (If the weather and your shoes permit, you can walk if it's just a couple of blocks.)

I don't know how long you plan to stay--just the night or the entire weekend. Maybe you can invite some friends to join you for brunch on Saturday, and make a big deal of his birthday then.

PM me to work on those secret notes. (Can you tell that I am having way too much fun with this one? I love doing this kind of stuff with my husband...turning something ordinary into something special just by tweaking it a bit.)

What fun! I had a surprise bday party for my husband's 40th. Have his suitcase packed, when he gets home, have him follow the clues that you set up. For example, write a love letter and use that as one of the clues. Be sure that the clues are obvious. No matter how much we love our men, at times they are a little clueless! Then have the clues lead him to the suitcase. Have the notes be sexy and fun. There are all sorts of hotels downtown. You could stay in the Theatre District. Go to a play and then a late supper. There are also comedy clubs and such. Google entertainment in downtown Houston. You should get a hit and get lots of ideas! Ya'll are going to have so much fun and he will remember this for a long time! Good luck!!
