Need Help Finding a Church in NRH...

I lost my way in my faith several years back and am working to get back on track now. I really want my daughter to have a spiritual upbringing, but I want somewhere where she can have the ability when she's older to choose the denomination that suits her. I was raised in a Southern Baptist church in a rural area of North Carolina, where I regularly attended services alone. My parents were Christians but only went to church on holidays. From the time I was 5, I attended my extremely small church almost every Sunday and Wednesday. Up until I was about 16 when some of my congregation showed racial segregation towards people wishing to join our Christmas service. I don't tolerate racism towards anyone, and so I parted with my church, somewhat feeling miffed that these people who could preach and claim to live by the words of God could so easily shun one of His own. I haven't really had a "home" per se since then.

I've been looking for a while now, but hadn't been able to attend anywhere because of a job that had me working every Sunday during service hours. Now I am in school and not working, so my Sundays will be free. I guess what I really want is a non-denominational church close to home (N Richland Hills) that has a casual atmosphere. I'm petrified of big churches and being "lost in the crowd" seeing as how my childhood church had a membership of about 300, but only about 40 attended every week. I don't want somewhere that will push me for money, as I've read that some churches sometimes do. I'm unemployed and in school, my husband makes about $20k a year, and have a 4 yr old, I will always give what I can, but it may not be much.

Sorry this got long. I appreciate any and all advice from anyone. God bless.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all of you for your advice! As of right now, I think I'm going to try out Wellspring Church first, as it's closest to my house. Hopefully it will "fit" me well, and I won't have to search further. I have to wait until the 14th to go though, because I am taking a trip home to NC this week and won't be back until the 10th. Again, thank you each and every one for taking the time and caring enough to help me out. :) Many blessings to you all.

You and I have a lot in common!! Growing up my parents were Christians, but didn't want to go to church. So, my sister and I would ride our bicycles up to the closest church. I went to a Baptist church as well and was baptized at 12, however I had a HUGE falling away from God through my teens and early twenties. When my husband and I decided to get married, we wanted to become a member of a church so we could bring our children up in church. He grew up Lutheran, but said there were a lot of things about this faith that he did not agree with (mostly infant baptism). I love the evangelistic efforts of the Baptist church, but I just could not believe that when we die, we go straight to heaven or hell. (Jesus didn't even go straight to heaven; he rose on the 3rd day.) The "rapture" did not match up to scripture. Also, I could not accept that a loving God would eternally torture those in hell for a brief lifetime of sin.

To make a long story shorter, I too was trying to find a non-denominational church (I used to call them damnations, LOL). I clung to the scripture that "the truth shall set you free". I had to have faith that if I continually was seeking the truth, and not just taking in what others told me, that we would find a church home.

The church I attend now is the most racially diverse in the world. As a whole, we don't like to have churches too big. The largest one is in Arlington, but we go to the Fort Worth First Church.

Here is a web site with our fundamental beliefs. Please email me if you have any questions or would like to attended church with us. ____@____.com

I absolutly LOVE my church. It's entire focus is on the love and atonement of Jesus Christ, and the divine role of families. It has the world's largest women's and charity programs and excellent programs for youth and children and women. The church is organized and very personable. It is set up like school zones, so you know which building to attend in your area by your address. Here is the official website that will answer everything you need to know about beliefs, organizations... everything. If you have any questions, just ask. I can tell you that I have been a member all of my life. I strayed for a couple of years and I came back because I missed the truthfulness and peace the gospel brought to my life. This link is to the building locator. I know how you feel about money pushers. However when I pay my 10% tithing, I am so greatly blessed. I have seen true miracles because the Lord truly blesses you for your obediance and faith to make that small sacrifice in so many ways.
One thing I love about our church, is it is a non-paid, volunteer only clergy. Our tithing does not go to pay for competitive preacher salaries. It goes to building usage and charity.

We live in Keller but attend at Life Connection Church in Euless. For me it is well worth the drive as it is exactly what you described and after the first time there, my 6 year old asked if we could go there every sunday so that was it for me. I was raised Catholic and my daughter was attending Catholic education classes until we attended Life Connection and we decided that is where we belonged so i have left the Catholic Church and am completely at peace with it. Life Connection is on the web if you choose to look it up.

Hi M. ~ i saw your request and I am new to the NRH area and was wondering if you had a chance to use the advice regarding these churches.. I have been wanting to get back into church as well.. I am also 26 and i have a son that is 7. I was raised in a pentacostal church, which basically when I came into my teen years, did not want to go, yet my mother would force me to go. Anyway, to make a long story short, i got caught up into drugs and now that im grown up, i think differently than i used to and i want my son to have good influences cause school friends can really be a downer.. And I was just wondering if you have found one that you would recommend? Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Hi M.,

I wanted to let you know about our church in NRH. We have been going there a year and love it! It is a non-denominational church named Wellspring Church. It is on the corner of Smithfield Road and Starnes. It has a GREAT children's program! The services are very casual. People of all races are welcome. Some dress up but many wear jeans, including the staff occasionally. If you would like to visit, I can meet you there a few minutes early and walk in with you. It is a little big but is very friendly and loving place. We have small groups that meet on Sunday night so we can get to know a handful of people to start out with. Please email me if you'd like to visit.

M.,

I can highly recommend Restoration Church. It is actually in Euless, but a lot of the people that go there live in NRH and everywhere else, really. It is located at 1350 W. Euless Blvd. in what used to be a shopping center. It is not huge, but not really small, either. There are usually about 300 people on Sundays. The service is 10:00 to 12:00. It is a non-denominational church. We have modern worship with some hymns mixed in, too. The people come from every type of background. You will see people there in suits and people in jeans and t-shirts. You will also see all colors of skin. There is also a great childrens' ministry, where your daughter can get teaching on her level and have fun while you are in "Big Church". Or, if you prefer, she can stay with you.

I really don't know what else to tell you. I have been going to Restoration for about 5 years now, so please email me with any questions you have. Also, Freedom Church is in North Richland Hills. I have never actually been to a service there, but I have heard good things about it from some people I know. It is off of Old Smithfield.

Hope this helps!

I don't know if you are looking right in NRH or if you're considering right outside of it. We attend Milestone Church in Keller. We have been looking for 2 and 1/2 years for the right church, and we finally found it here. It's non-denominational, and it's not too large. They also offer a lot of home groups so you can have people who can help you in your walk. They also have a great children's ministry. Check out the website, and see what you think. If you're interested, let me know, and I'll look for you! God bless, and good luck in your search.
