I'm starting a new business and will need a website but have no idea what to do. Since I'm starting out, money is not very plentiful, so I will need somthing basic and low cost. If anyone has suggestions on where to go, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

So What Happened?

Sorry it has taken so long to give everyone an update, but I apparently had a lot of work to do to get my website up and running. Thanks to all of you who suggested godaddy.com as that is where I registered my domanin name. I did find a great person to walk me through the website, design it and host it for me. Please feel free to check it out at www.robynladinsky.com. You will be able to receive some free reports related to parenting and happiness.
Thanks again for all your answers.

Hi!... Mi name is C. Suggs. I own my own company, and I designed my website. You can see is very simple (no e-commerce, no on-line forms, etc.) www.art-off-the-wall.com Although I don't mention it in the website itself, I design simple websites for $75 a page. If you are interested, call me ###-###-####

You can post the job request on sologig.com. Just be sure to ask and check references and set payment terms based on milestones in the project. Do not pay for 100% of the project up front. Also, if you have not already done so, I would recommend doing some research on your own of websites that have similar content, functionality, look/feel that would work for yo). Look for someone who can help you with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) which will maximize the number of qualified hits to your site. Good luck to you.

Hi R.,

I, too, started a new business. Go to Yahoo.com in the Small Business section and you can create your own website for less than $10 a month. I think it is a very good considering the inexpensive rate. It prompts you so you know where and when to put in the appropriate information. It's a little generic, but it works especially when you have limited funds. Check out my site, which I created myself at www.exquisiteoccasionsbynikki.com. Good luck!

I have a friend going through google and it is $10 a year. It is not all set up yet but the price was right. Also you can get one through vista print for 15 a month or something like that. Hope that helps give you a place to start looking!

There are a ton of WAHM designers who design templates that are super inexpensive and can look really great. I purchased one from www.boutiquemama.com. So you can get an idea of what it can look like...my site is www.ashberrybaby.com. Then, you can host through a WAHM owned company. I've been with www.shoppepro.com for almost a year with only one server incident and she has the greatest customer service. If you go to her site, find the "design partners" section and look through the designers who build templates for her hosting. Some are not-so-hot, but some are great. For a site that is not e-commerce I think her hosting is less than $5 a month (not sure).

R., you can also start a blog which is free through most companies. My main blog is through Google. I put my blog address on my business cards and I have had a lot of customers check it out to see the kind of work I do. I am a crafter/stamper/Stampin' Up Demonstrator, so the blog works well for me. Depending on the kind of company you are starting, a blog could work well for starters. Good luck in your new adventure!!

The single best low cost web design company in the area is AthensGuy.com. Cynthia MacDonald is the owner, along with her husband. They do a great job and specialize in small businesses and not for profits. Her number is ###-###-#### or you can email her at ____@____.com. I am in a business networking group with her and have known her for many years. You'll love what she can do for you!

Hi R.! Congrats on starting your business! Check out Yahoo Site Solutions. This is what I use and it's around $12 a mointh. If you want shopping carts, etc. check out their Merchant Solutions plan. This is about $40 a month. Yahoo is VERY easy to use and update yourself. Check my site out at www.LostRiverNaturals.com to get an idea. There are many layouts and colors, templates to choose from.

I have not read the other responces so this might be a duplicate. If you want to try to do it yourself....
GoDaddy.com is the cheapest place to get your domain name. They will will also host. Not sure if they are the cheapest since my husband host and creates websites.
Wordpress.com I believe is a good place to create your own simple website and I think a lot of their backgrounds are free.

Hi R., since you are starting a business, I agree with the person who said that you should start by blogging. A blog doesn't cost anything, there are all kinds of nice templates to choose from (check mine out at deniseleeporter.com), and it's just a great way to get your foot in the door. Additionally there is this whole blog community out there for Moms who are business owners that you can be a part of. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Congrats on the business and good luck

HI R.!
Happy New Year!
I am very happy to hear about your new company. I have a website through godaddy.com. I also have twins! My twins are 15 years old.
I purchased a website through them about a year ago to post my writing but you can use it for promotional business use also. I can remember all the cost but I do know that it was under $75. You choose a domain name and purchase the rights of that name under .com, .net, or .mobile; so that no one else can use that name under another domain name while searching for yours. Once that is done you can always go back and add security to your page and email for people to respond to you. It's a annual fee. I just renewed mine on December 29 for $29 dollars. One more thing: You can design your own website or pay to have them do it for you. I get live feedback from go daddy and via telephone or email. Check it out! my site is under construction because I am adding things but if you go to www.wordsfrompearine.com you will come to my own website that's being worked on. I own the rights to everything that's published there.
I hope this helps! I can't wait to see your site! Keep me posted.

I went through Yahoo small business. You get the free design software (I think it's called SiteBuilder) to download on your computer. It has dozens of templates to choose from, and with a little practice, you can design a decent looking site. Yahoo hosts my site, and I believe it's about $12 per month. They have different hosting plans to choose from, but a basic one like the one I have should do just fine for what you're describing. I have had the yahoo site and hosting for about 4 years and have been very happy with the product and the customer support from yahoo.

Good luck with your business.
I don't know a lot about web design but I have "created" 2 different websites using the below forums.

freewebs.com
geocities.com has a free option

From my personal experience the freewebs site is way easier to use (design) than the geocities one was, but... personal preference :)
