Need Advice Again!

Okay so when I got home from work this morning, I walked into the bathroom and apparently a cracked mirror in there is starting to release glass shavings the consistency of dust and I have a bunch in the ball of my foot. We're talking so small you can't even see a puncture wound, but believe me it's there because when I walk it feels like a million tiny needles!!!! I washed it thoroughly and shined the flashlight on it and it looks like I have fairy dust in my foot. So splinters and needles won't get them out. Any suggestions? I know I can go to the doc but we are on such a limited income if there's anything I can try before paying the doc I would like to.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Gorrilla Tape and Elmers school glue. Its how I got the 3 hundred (exaggeration) wood sliver after sliding across the wood deck on a toy, out of my heel. Had to do it a couple time, a couple different ways, but those two worked best.

duct tape or wax might work. And I'm talking the kind of wax you use for waxing off body hair.

However I would still recommend a trip to the doctor to be sure ALL are gone.

I would use duct tape or gorilla tape - the stickiest tape you can find - to try to grab the bits and get them out.

I saw a show "Stories of the ER" where they used wax (the kind used to remove body hair) to remove hundreds/thousands of tiny cactus spines from a little girl.....

They smoothed on the wax, put on the paper, and yanked it all off..... it still hurt a bunch (parents weren't willing to sedate the girl), but it went much quicker.

And... on the bottom of the foot, there isn't hair to make the removal hurt. You might have to try it a couple of times, but it is sure worth trying!

You really do need to get to a doctor! Right away! You don't want any of those bits stuck in your skin. You skin can heal over it and cause lots of problems later.

But you can lessen it by using sticky tape to get some of the pieces out.

Do get to a doctor as soon as possible!

After reading a couple of the posts I had the quick scene come to mind from Princess Diary's 1, where she is visiting with her guy friend and has the zit tape on her nose. Perhaps that would work too. Just on the foot, not the nose...lol.

While you may be able to get bits out with tape or glue -- what about the risk of infection? Your skin has been punctured. I would get to an urgent care center (the walk-in places) and get this taken care of. Be sure to ask about infection and what you should be watching for, so you will know if your foot is starting to get infected and can come back immediately for drugs.

You do not want to mess with this. You may feel you can't afford one doctor's visit now - but imagine the huge costs if you get an infection and it goes untreated. It's not worth saving money now to end up paying much more later.

Tape up that mirror or remove it.
Clean up the floor as I am sure you did.

I have also heard of the Elmer's glue trick.
Then peel off the glue.

Just don't "rub" your foot or scrub... it may get the glass shavings more imbedded in your foot.

I agree with the remarks to get to the doctor to make sure they are all out.

My husband got stuck by a thorn last summer while working in the yard, and evidently, he didn't get part of it out. Now he has a hard lump on his thumb from it. Do you want something like that on the bottom of your foot? Now he's going to have to get this thing surgically removed.

Our bodies deal with foreign bodies in particular ways - you want to get every single one of these things out of your foot now instead of letting your body "deal with it".

Good luck!
Dawn

Mama:

OUCH!! I'm sorry !! It does hurt to have shards of glass in your foot.

If you have a home waxing kit - use that on the bottom and throw the strip away after you use it.

If that does not get them all out - please see a doctor. I get the low income issue - however - you don't want this to fester and become an infection. Keep in mind the body will NORMALLY push out all the stuff that doesn't belong - however - this is your FOOT, not a hand or arm - you need this to walk.

GET RID OF THE MIRROR!!! Put tape over it to keep it from breaking further and get it out of the house!

Tape.
I have also heard to put elmer's glue on it generously and let it dry. Then peel it off.

Glass will work itself out. It may not feel too good, but it will come out by itself.

No advice for the question sorry! But if you reticle your post with more specifics you're more likely to have people open and answer it! Maybe "removing glass shavings in foot?"
