N. Texas Icemageddon 2013 Rant & Questions

As you probably know, most of the smart people have been inside for the last few days because of a lack of street surface stabilty.
I have sat here watching my BRAVE neighbor men manuver their trucks like guppies in heat down the street to fetch whatever life saving item they needed from the store. I've watched the news. I have several friends without power.
But what I *DO NOT* understand are the people whinning and complaing about this TERRIBLE NO GOOD AWFUL CABIN FEVER.

One of my Facebook friends said being stuck inside is making her fat cause she is "snacking". WHAT??? I know her, if she wasn't iced in she'd be a Chuy's sucking down a margarita and some nachos.

Are YOUR aquaintences complaining about being stuck inside? I myself have got some stuff cleaned out and listed on ebay, done some onlie christmas shopping and watched a well deserved DVD. I'm not putting up a Christmas Tree this year otherwise I would have spent Icemageddon 2013 doing that.

Please share your whiniest friends complaints :)

We cooked, baked, watched Christmas movies, caught up on reading, did some chores, played board games and party games, cleaned out a closet and the playroom, took photos of some things I'm going to list on craigslist, got the donation stuff all organized for when I do get back on the roads, we went exploring, used our beach boogie boards for sliding down little hills in our neighborhood and took pictures, did some online Christmas shopping, created a photobook of the boys from January to now and took advantage of Snapfish's buy 1 get 2 free photobook sale (gifts for my bio-dad, my mom, and my mother in law), decorated our tree, did Christmas cards (almost all got knocked out yesterday and today!), watched the Saints tear up the Panthers.....been a wonderful weekend. I haven't heard anyone complain, but then again I haven't spoken to anyone local really except on mamapedia and my bff who only lives 1.5 miles from me, but we haven't seen each other because of the roads. She played "white trash sledding" in laundry baskets with her son and his friends, and I've stayed on my side playing with my family. I think it was actually a much needed, if forced, break and an excuse to be lazy. It was also useful to me because while I pride myself on being "prepared" for most everything, I realized that I wasn't as stocked up on my husband's RX as I'd like to be, and I would appreciate another loaf of bread in the freezer. And more potatoes (lol). That's about it, but it was good to be forced to take a minute and take a realistic account on how well I am prepared for situations like this, for next time. I think it's sad that many people have truly lost the ability to entertain themselves for a few days. We did call around to make sure friends did have power and offer our home if they encountered a problem. (One of the reasons we organized the playroom---in case we needed to throw an airbed down in there as well as the guest room). But everyone we personally knew was safe.

My biggest nuisance: my Facebook friends that post pictures every hour:
Look at me still in my pajamas
Look at what our Elf on a Shelf did
Look at my son eating breakfast
Look at my daughter watching Polar Express
Look at my dog in the back yard ice
Look at me baking cookies
Look at Grandma helping us bake cookies
Look at my kids decorating cookies
Look at us having pizza delivered
Look at me having a beer I kept outside on ice
Look at me making spaghetti for dinner
Look at my kids playing outside on the ice
Look at my kids having hot chocolate
Look at me putting Baileys in my hot chocolate
Look Daddy's home from work
Look at us going out on date night
Look at us on the patio fireside at On the Border
Loot at the kids fell asleep on the couch

I haven't heard many complaints at all ! I know I was getting a little stir crazy yesterday but was able to get to Wal Mart for a bit to get some replacement Christmas lights. Other than that myself and most of my friends have enjoyed the downtime. It was nice to not get out of pj's on Saturday.

Hubby and I were talking about this yesterday. People started complaining about Cabin Fever on Saturday! Really?? Personally, we have enjoyed it. We haven't been productive at all. But we have had some great family time...napping, reading, making our gingerbread house, wrapping presents, watching movies. I have enjoyed it! I guess the storm just solidifies by home body status!
