Aftershave can be really irritating. Best to put nothing on freshly shaved skin if you're sensitive.

Have him shave after showers when the hairs are soft. If he uses plastic disposable razors, use a new one each time. If he uses interchangeable blades, they can be used a few times if they are cleaned well and dried between uses. Don't keep razors/blades in the shower.

Who uses aftershave lotion?

He needs to properly care for his skin with some sort of moisturizer and sunscreen.

I think it's a terrible idea to put anything on sensitive skin, especially during the teen years when kids are subject to pimples. Shaving sort of works as an exfoliant, so let the skin rest. Get a shaving product made for sensitive skin, but don't put anything on afterwards. Tell him to rinse well without rubbing.

If he uses something else for his skin (for pimples, etc.), have him use it many hours after he shaves. If there's a question, talk to the dermatologist or even the pharmacy manager.

Witchhazel. It soothes and doesn't irritate. And it doesn't promote oiliness, so minimizes zits. Plus it's far cheaper than aftershave and doesn't have a lingering (and offensive) fragrance.

Is he using straight razors or an electric one? When my boys started shaving we got them electric ones. I didn't want them using other ones yet. They don't use any aftershave.

I agree with Heidi. When my son first started shaving we bought him an electric razor

My DH has sensitive skin, and he loves the Nivea post shave balm. It's a lotion for sensitive skin, in a white bottle in the men's shaving aisle. He used to get razor burn, no matter what razor he used, and since he started using it, he never does.

Neither my husband or son use aftershave lotion.
