My Son Is Wheezing and Complaining His Tummy Hurts

Could the upset tummy be related to a food allergy? When your body is already stressed by other things - it may not be as affective at helping allergies. Also - antobiodics throw off the whole gastral system - the body needs good bacteria too. Probiotics are best if it's a milk related allery... acidopholus/yogurt works well too (but milk related). They make Probiotics for kids - a mix that you can add to water that makes it taste like a fruit juice... They may hace chewables at your local drug store.

Just an idea you can maybe throw out at the doc. Good luck and I hope your little one turns around and makes a speedy recovery!

I assume that someone has thought to give him a strep test? I had scarlet fever as an adult (I've had nearly all the strep-related illness, lucky me). This sounds a lot like how I felt, constantly hot and light-headed, sore belly and tired, not to mention a sore throat.

I'm sorry your little one is feeling so poorly. Hope you get some answers at his next appointment.

Has your son been tested for FOOD allergys. An allergy to food can cause wheezing as well as a belly ache. My son was sick in a very similar way this year. Thay have diagnosed him with Asthma and he has severe food allergys and will wheeze if he comes in contact with somethng he is allergic to.

It sounds like your child could have a variety of different things. First he has some type of infection if he has fevers - maybe this hasn't been resolved yet. Once you have pneumonia it can return.

Second does your child have any allergies to (dust, pollen, pets etc.) Children that have alleries - tend to have a lot of mucous production and then are more prone to infections.

Third - your child could have just plain asthma - or could have an allergy induced asthma - or might just be having trouble breathing from having pneumonia.

It sounds like your child has had a tough time this winter, but let me give you a little advice. I am not sure where you live but if you are reasonably close to Children's Hospital I would go there. It sounds like your MD office is not doing the tests that are necessary to determine what your child is really suffering from. He could have one problem or three problems that are compounding eachother. I would go to Children's and get an allergy work-up, I would request an x-ray of the lungs. In the meantime, if you think he has allergies - the first thing is to get him on an antihistamine such as Zyrtec, then maybe he could use a nebulizer for albuterol or a steroid short term, sounds like he should also be on antibiotic that he hasn't already been on this year. Once the infection is controlled and the alleriges are under control - he may not need asthma meds. Hope this helps.

Laura, I would have the child check for allergy. go to boston 1st . have them draw blood. It could be very simple. But have it done soon. Kathy
