My Son Has Been Getting Alot of Stomach Aches

My son gets alot of stomach aches and Im starting to wonder what is causing them. if we go to a resturant, not fast food, he will order chicken strips, he barely will touch them maybe a bite or two and will end up in the bathroom with a stomach ache. if we eat fast food he will get chicken nuggets and will eat them all with no problems. Today he had a hamburger and again got a stomach ache which is not normal for hamburgers. I can tell he does not feel well when this happens. I also have been trying to get him to stop ordering pop. He drinks alot of water and barely asks for pop unless we are out to eat, so I am trying to rule that out. He is also a very picky eater, does not like anything and will tell me he does not like things before he tries things. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what may be going on with him while Im waiting to get him to the doctor.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took my son to the doctor today. She is trying him on meds for Acid Reflux and if that does not work she will start testing for Wheat/Gluten and some other things. I am not sure I think its Acid Reflux since he is only getting it when eating certain things but we will see what we find out.

Look into celiac symtoms. That is a gluten free diet needed. It may be a thought . My friend said behavior and stomach issues were a sign. her son is completely normal now that she followed the diet.
Just a guess.

maybe it's the fat in the foods that make him sick.. Could be his gallbladder.. granted he is VERY young to even have such problems.. but hey, it is the body part that makes bile and hence, helps us break down fat... the foods you mention are high in fat.. see how he does when you give him leaner foods. you can still do a burger, but do 98% lean or even a turkey burger << keep in mind, when using turkey all breast, you need to def season it... also, same with chicken.. perhaps get him a grilled piece as oppose to fried... sometimes people can't metabolize fat accordingly... Lastly, perhaps consider limiting too much beverage drinking during meals.. too much liquid can inhibit digestion... too little (meaning if you are dehydrated going into a meal) can also be rough on the digestion... keep a balance... in other words, stay hydrated all day and don't just drink a ton at a meal.. I find these measures do work..

good luck

Does he get diarrhea with his stomach pain? From the little I get I would say he has a food allergy. My husband is highly allergic to wheat/gluten and before we found out he would feel sick to his stomach and then pass out. He started passing out in 4th grade and the dr said it was growing pains. 2 years ago I had to rush him to the ER and they admitted him to ICU and said it was endocrine tumors. We spent 6 months going from 1 specialist to another, we went to every specialist except an oncologist and an endocrinologist. At this time he broke out in "psoriasis" from head to toe. I found a book on how to cure psoriasis the natural way, and it was to take foods out that caused allergens. To make a long story shorter, we found out he was allergic to wheat/gluten, cow's milk and egg whites.

I am now an advocate for allergy testing, because dr's don't believe in allergies and the test is VERY cheap compared to every other test they put patients through. Try and get him to be blood allergy tested.

Does he eat anything healthy?
You meantion fast food, chicken nuggets, and hamburgers - all fall into the junk food category for me. Maybe you can work on a healthy diet for him and reduce the additives and fat he must be eating too. Then you can rule out specific foods one by one.
Good luck.

I like Margie's response. Definitely have him checked out. I would also start giving him a high quality probiotic on a regular basis. (I usually purchase mine from the refrigerated case at Whole Foods Market.) It may take a week or two for them to replenish the good bacteria in his colon but it is definitely worth trying.

My husband had/has the same problem when he was a kid. They are still trying to figure out exactly what it is but they do detect acid reflux. His mom, when he was a kid, would get on to him because he had to start eating really fast or he wouldnt get to finish his meal before he had to go to the bathroom. I would take him to his doc :/ Goodluck!

Hi--
There are lots of things it could be, from anxiety to a lingering bug. My kids both have severe food allergies, so that would be my guess. I would guess gluten and/or milk as the culprit. If his liver is out of balance then it will not produce enough bile for digestion--when your son eats fatty foods this imbalance would also cause a stomach ache. Unfortunately I'm a bit of an expert on tummy issues because my youngest has a very sensitive tummy. I have all kinds of natural tools for dealing with it. If you think that some of my ideas could be what's happening with you son, I'm happy to discuss it ith you further.
Good luck in figuring it out!

You did not say how old your son is but I venture to say he is between the ages of 8 and 11-ish. The only reason I say this is because I had this happen when I was that age, so did my husband and now it has been happening to my son who is 10. Basically, he has gotten picky about the food he eats and is not even enjoying the things he used to love, i.e., hamburgers, stating that he is getting a stomach ache when he eats. I spoke to the doc about this about a year ago and there was not a thing was wrong with him. He said that kids tend to go through these stages and as long as they are still thriving and gaining weight then there is no cause for concern and they will grow out of it. I have even seen my 5 year old run into this on occasion just not all the time.

I wouldn't worry too much, just go to the doc and if he/she does not have concerns than I wouldn't make much of it, he will outgrow it.

Good luck!
