Welcome!! I would look for a Moms Club group. I was involved in the Moms Club of Gilbert and they had great activities and playgroups. Also, go to the Playtopia park on McQueen in Chandler. It has a huge playground. Look on the City of Chandler website. There is also a year around pool at the Mesquite Groves facility. Good luck.

Look for play groups in your area. One I know of in most areas is MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) although this is often religious based (the one here is so I do not attend). I also found playgroups locally that provided a class for mom and playtime for kids. This was the case here at Jazzercise and at a local martial arts/kick boxing class that I loved. Try doing a Yahoo search under the local setting for your area and see what you come up with. Also, have your husband ask around at work if any of the wives might know of some groups.

I own an insurance agency in Gilbert and the best way to meet locals is on http://www.Meetup.com. You can put in your zip code and search "mom groups" as well as any other interests you may have (reading, hiking, poker, bikes, etc) and it shows groups in your zip code. Some are free, some are not but it's free to go on meetup.com. Welcome to AZ and let me know if you need anything else since I have great business contacts in the area! http://www.AgentLady.com

We just moved last march from brooklyn. it's been hard meeting other moms for us too. We go to the library once a week for storytime and have joined some mom groups. How old are your little ones?

Definitely www.meetup.com. When I stopped working full time to stay home it was a life saver! Just search Moms Groups/Playgroups in your area. You will find TONS! You'll love it.

Good Luck!

There is a great Parks and Recreation Department with lots of activities for the kids and adults. The schedule is in a magazine called BreakTime and the next registration is in early November. You can pick up a BreakTime at Tumbleweed Rec Center, the Community Center, Snediger or various other places.

I love my International MOMS Club group. It's based on area boundaries, so it's really nice that you meet and befriend moms that don't live far from you. Dues are $20 for the year & well worth it. Do you know where you'll be living yet? Check them out...http://www.momsclub.org/

Hi K.,

I saw this posting a few days ago but here is what I as thinking. You can go to a church and meet a lot of moms your age there. In Chandler we have this magazine called Break Time that tells you everything that is available to do in the city of Chandler, classes to take etc. This magazine is free. I've lived here since 1986 and there is always something . Thanks, N. P

How old are your kids? If they are babies and/or toddlers, definitely look into MOMs Club chapters. I used to be a member of one of the Ahwatukee chapters. My boys and I have very good friends from there.
I'm not sure about meetup or MOPS, but MOMs Club is boundary specific so you are together with neighbors, usually 2 elementary school areas.

Ahwatukee Foothills is a fabulous community to live in and it's right next to Chandler. Ahwatukee (and part of Chandler) also has the best elementary school district in Phoenix, Kyrene School District.

Hi K.! Welcome to AZ :) I am in a MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) group in Awhatukee. We meet at Foothills Baptist church on Chandler Blvd. There is actually a meeting tomorrow morning at 9am. I won't be there because I have an event at my daughter's preschool, but there are lots of welcoming women of all personalities, ages, religious or non/religious etc... In our particular group there are at least 3 women who are new to the area and just moved here in the last 6 months. I am not sure where in Chandler you live, so there might be a group closer to your house. You can look at the MOPS website and search for groups. I am going to the Chandler fashion square mall today at 10am to meet a friend in the play area. If you want to get out and come say hi, we would love to meet you. My name is J. and I have dark blonde hair. My daughter, Hannah is 2.5 and will be with me. My other daughter, Brynn is almost 4. This sounds crazy but you will probably find me easier by my purse since there will be so many other people there... light tan with brown diamonds. Feel free to message me anytime if you want to get together and I can give you the lowdown on the area :)

Here's another site for a mom's group.
http://www.meetup.com/Tempe-Sweet-Peas/about/
If you go to church, that's also another great place to meet people. Or the park. Having kids makes it easier...the kids make friends and then you get to know the parents. Have fun.
