I would like to know if some children drool from the first sign of teeth coming in till the age of four, because my grand child is always drooling and he leaves drool everywhere even my children will complain because he gets drool on them or on their toys even when he eats, my poor grandson he eat in a sloppy manner, is that normal? I have asked my daughter to ask his doctor and she says that they(doc.)says he's okay even when he talks it sounds like he has a lot of saliva in his mouth, I know that my sisters' son had a similar problem, at one time and his doctor said he had that little, I don't know what they call it, that little piece of skin under our tongues which holds it together, (the tongue to our inside of the mouth), he's was to long and the doctors needed to shorten it which they preform surgery for that but my daughter has told his ped. but he says, no, it's fine but I feel he's older now he shouldn't be drooling as much as he does.Another thing when he talks, his words sometimes are hard to understand I know the Headstart Program he's in ,will be checking his speech sometime soon.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I want to thank everyone who wrote in for my request I just spoke to my daughter and she told me that my grandson has already been checked by a speech therapist and they assured her that he was fine and one of her son ped. doctors told her that he had an overbite and he was to young to get that fixed because they might have to break his jaw for that.I was just worried for him, you know grandma's they tend to do that, God Bless everyone,Thanks again.

Hi T.,
I have a 4 year old (Nov. B-day) son and he drools alot too. His pedi said that he was fine. He has had this issue for as long as I can remember. Our situation differs a little because he had an illness when he was smaller and as a result, besides the several blood transfusions that he has had, he also had to have extensive dental surgery. Point being all of his top teeth are capped and when I addressed his drooling with his pediatric dental specialist he told me that it was normal in some kids and that it is a sign of good health. He has been getting better at controlling what comes out of his mouth but I do notice that he swallows alot. Anyway, Hope this helps! Good luck and try not to worry!

Hi T.
My child drooled until we started her on zytec for allergies. All of a sudden, the drooling stopped! Same thing happened with my son. As soon as the allergies were under control the drooling got better and went away! Also, with my son his tonsils and adnoids were too big and once they were removed he could speak better and stopped drooling.
Having a long frenulum is okay. SOmeitmes it can hurt while breastfeeding and need to be clipped. Not a big deal.
hope this helps

My daughter drooled until she was just over 2years old even though she had a full set of teeth before she was 1. She did stop though. I would have him checked out if he is still doing it. Has he been to a dentist?
I agree. It might not be hurting him physicaly, but kids can certainly be cruel. Good luck.
