Can anyone tell me a little info about Ephrata? We are buying a house there and we hope we made the right choice.
Statistically it's safe and I have researched the schools. Are the people friendly? Economical places to food shop? Any areas to stay
away from or is it all nice and safe? We did meet some very nice New Yorkers in the park and they were very welcoming. I think I have a good feeling about it. Any replies would be deeply appreciated. We are moving there on June 17th!

What can I do next?

Sincerely,
M.

What part of Ephrata are you moving to??? Will your kids be entering the public school system???

I know Ephrata has drug activity, both on the streets and in the schools. There are nice areas of Ephrata to live in. I live in Denver and really love it. I used to live in Ephrata and wanted a better education for my son. He's now getting that in Cocalico. We've lived here almost 7 years. We were blessed with the arrival of our daughter almost two years after we moved here. She'll be starting kindergarten in the fall and my son will be a senior.

I hope your move goes well for you. There's lots to do in the area.

We have lived in Ephrata for the past 8 years. There are friendly people here, but I would say a lot of them are not friendly unless you get to know them. I would, however recommend living here in Ephrata. I feel safe, and the schools are very good. Except for grocery shopping or the run to Walmart, everything else is in either Reading or Lancaster. I do not like going to Lancaster, but they have abundant shopping there. I welcome you to Ephrata, and I think you will feel like home here!!!!

Hi M.,

I live in stevens, which is right next to Ephrata. Make yourself familiar with Route 272! There is Weis MArkets, Redners Warehouse (next to each other). There is a Super Walmart that is a grocery store and has very reasonable prices. There is a place called the Green Dragon which is open only on Fridays. The Amish & mennonite farmers sell their produce and fresh meat. There is a store called MArtins Country Market on Route 322 that is a nice place to shop as well. Talk to your neighbors and see where they go. I personally go wherever I feel like going that day because they are all good. Weaver's market is popular but expensive compared to most of the others.

I have lived in the area for 2 years but I have family that has lived here their entire lives. It's a nice area. I am not sure if there are "bad spots" in Ehprata itself but further north is very safe. Just about everyone around here says hello to you whether they know you or not. I don't know much about Ephrata's school system but I know Cocalico is wonderful. I have an 8 year old. State Street Family Practice are great doctors in your neighborhood.

For the four legged kids, a great vet is Peaceable Kingdom on Route 322, not far from where you will be. They are really nice and friendly.

You can email me privately if you want more info.

Sorry this was so long!!

L.

Hi M.!
I too am a former NY (Long Island) transplant. Moved here in the early 80's. I lived in Ephrata for many years (recently) before getting married and moving to Leola which is 10 minutes away (back roads). I love Ephrata! The town is great and the people I found to be very nice to us being from NY. Our church is in Ephrata, our Pediatrician is in Ephrata, the Hospital I delivered my son in was wonderful also in Ephrata (although the ER is terrible). Our vet is in Brownstown (10 mins from Ephrata) and they are fantastic! I took my cat ONE time to Peaceable Kingdom (they are from NY too that is why I took her there) and thought they were terrible and not very nice even to a natiev NY'er such as myself. The shopping is great. You have Super WalMart, Weis, Redners and Green Dragon on Fridays. There is a new Hampton Inn on 322 with an Applebys next to it. There is a wonderful restaurant called Lilys on Main also down from the hotel along with a movie theatre. The schools I hear are good too. I am in Epharta at least 4x a week.
Welcome to PA and if you would like more info or a new friend feel free to send an email private! My brother is a Dr in Fayetteville NC and he loves it there!
Talk to ya soon!
Chris
