Mother's Day Gift Ideas!

I need some creative ideas!! I usually create something for my mom for her birthdays and mother's days. However, this year I have just plain run out of ideas! My mom is an amazing woman and has been an incredible role model for me. She's very child-centered and has been a tremendous help with raising my son.

I have bought pretty frames for pictures of my son, I've decorated frames (painted, embellishments, I even had my son do his thumb prints all over a frame. etc.) and I've created a 6x6 scrapbook of all the fun and special things my mom and my son do together, especially at her place.

For this birthday, my son made a picture for her and he LOVED being part of it. He held it the whole ride to her place and ran up the walk to give it to her. He was so proud! So any ideas that involve my son would be great. And if they don't, that's ok too! I just need my creative juices rebooted!

What can I do next?

I know I only received 3 responses, but I loved them all!! What awesome ideas! I will most likely use all of them in the Mother's Days and Birthdays to come! If anyone has any more to share, keep them coming! :)

One year for Mother's Day I made flower pots with my kids hand prints on them. I babysit and also made them for my moms. My mom, to this day, puts flowers in them every year and uses them. She was just talking about them this morning and saying how much she loves them and how much they mean to her.

what about a magnet for the fridge that you make with your son, to hold the pictures that he draws for grandma?

or a big beaded necklace that your son helps you make?

i like to give my mom kitchen stuff- a fun spatula or kitchen towel or hot pad...

just a few ideas... maybe i'll have to try them!

I don't know if your mom is a T-shirt wearing grandma, but one year, we used our son's footprints on a T-shirt. Then, wrote on it "My grandson walks all over me". Both grandma's loved it. We also did the frame thing once. Wooden frames at Michaels. Then used fingerprints. This time, my son was old enough to write "I love you" on it. Michaels is full of ideas.

Many craft stores have build-it-yourself bird houses or bird feeders that you and your son can easily put together with a few brads and wood glue. Afterwards, you and he can paint it for Grandma. I don't know any grandparent who could resist something like that!
Then, every time you and your son visits, your mom can tell him what kind of birds have visited.

Happy early Mothers Day to you!

Maybe you could do a family picture this year? Portrait Innovations has some really inexpensive packages, usually a special for $10 for one pose which includes a variety of picture sizes. They print them while you wait, very quick and painless! Or you could put together a calendar of pics of your son that relate to various seasons, etc. There are lots of photo places online that you upload to and get them professionally printed.

Not sure exactly how she did it, you would have to look it up, but my sil made me a gift of homemade potpourri from fruit rinds and cinnamon sticks. She put the potpourri in a glass container and a candle in the middle. They were very cute and smelled wonderful. I know there were orange peels but I can't remember what else, it's been a long time.
Good luck with this. You're a very thoughtful daughter. Your mom must be something really special. Shannon

I have started a stepping stone collection of my kids for each year. As they grow, so do their hands and feet! You can buy the stepping stone project at Micheals. It comes with a mold, plaster, colorful stones, and then your child can make a hand print or foot print into it. Don't forget to carve the date in! They look so pretty in a little garden. We also have made them for Mother's Day gifts for all of the Grandmas.

Another idea that was a hit...Coffee mugs! The kit is also available at Michaels craft store. It comes with a white porcelain mug with permanent marker for your little one to embelish with. My family loves coffee so we would put a gift card for their favorite coffee shop inside the mug as well!

If she is local take her to brunch. We are taking to kids and my husbands mother to the Natica Queen Cruise. If she is not local last year I got my mom a pajama gram. So very cute and easy to order online.
